The latest NJCAA Top-25 Wrestling poll would find the Cloud County wrestling team coming in at #25 heading into the 2020 portion of the schedule. Cloud County has been ranked in the top-25 in all the polls released this season, with sophomore Blayne Harris coming in as the #9 ranked wrestler at 125 pounds.
Cloud County would hit five of their season-best 10 threes in the first quarter of action at Barton on Wednesday night, but it would be the Cougars who would use a strong second-half performance to down the T-Birds. CCCC would get a team-high 22 points from Jacy Dalinghaus in the loss.
A defensive-minded first half would not hold up in the second half of action as Cloud County would fall to #24 Barton on the road by a score of 74-67 in Great Bend on Wednesday night. The T-Birds would hold Barton to a season-low 31 points in the first half, but could not keep the pace in the final 20 minutes of action with the Cougars.
In their first action in 2020, the #25 ranked Cloud County wrestling team would drop a pair of dual matches to ranked opponents in Iowa Lakes Community College and Colby Community College at the 2020 NJCAA Coaches Duals in Miami, Oklahoma on Friday. Three open weight classes would be a big key to a 45-9 defeat to the #20 Lakers to open the duals while the T-Birds would drop a close 31-22 decision to the #22 ranked Trojans.
After trailing by as many as 13 early in the second quarter, the Cloud County women's basketball team slowly chipped away at their deficit to pull within two points of Pratt in the fourth quarter before fading down the stretch. Cloud County would shoot just two free throws in the game compared to 33 for Pratt, who also used a 23-7 advantage in points off turnovers to earn the win.
Second half scoring struggles would be the undoing of the Cloud County men's basketball team against Pratt at home Saturday afternoon as the T-Birds would connect on just eight field goals in the final 20 minutes of action. CCCC would trail by just a single-point at halftime (31-30), but never would be able to respond to an early second half run by the Beavers.
Day 2 of the NJCAA Coaches Duals would see #25 Cloud County take on two of the top three teams in the country as Cloud County would square off against top-ranked Western Wyoming and third ranked North Idaho Community College to close out the weekend. The T-Birds would be unable to secure a victory in either dual, with Nate Normandin wrestling the closest match of the day in an 8-4 decision against Alex Lopez of North Idaho.
