Jewish Holocaust Reflections Alfredo Silva

Initial understanding- Before this, I knew the basics of what the Holocaust was. Hitler was the head of this movement and it consisted of an extreme hatred towards the Jewish people.

How it's changed- My understanding is essentially the same but I now know more details and how much pain these people actually went through. I am now able to understand this at a deeper level.

Adolf Hitler standing with his army

Did all the Germans agree with Hitler's plan to persecute the Jews? The truth is that no not all of them did but they clearly had no choice. The few that were opposed wouldn't dare to go against him because the consequences were fatal.

Courageous Person: Nicholas Winton

He was a British humanitarian who organized the rescue of 669 children, most of them Jewish, from Czechoslovakia in an operation known as the Czech Kindertransport. He wasn't upset by his humanitarian efforts going unrecognized because he didn't view his acts as something extraordinary, he helped out of the kindness of his heart.

Present day connection- Darfur is a modern day holocaust

DeGraff is a leading member of a group of American clergy who have pledged to turn around what he says is a lack of international action to stop the fighting and atrocities in Darfur. They murder, rape, and mutilate non-Arabs. They call it "ethnic cleansing". This goes hand in hand with the genocide of the Jews during the Holocaust.
