STUDENT FOCUS

We love to hear why our students enjoy taking online classes! Email us at distanceed@wcupa.edu and share with us why you enjoy online learning and you could be featured in our next newsletter or on our social media sites!

Christopher Stancil

Christopher Stancil, a senior at West Chester University, shared why he chose online learning. He states "I enjoy taking online courses because I can fit them into my busy schedule. I can log on, pause, and continue the class at my convenience. As a former student athlete and current residential assistant, I know the importance of time management. In fall 2015, I took an Intercultural Communications course online and that semester I earned my first 4.0 GPA! In my final semester I plan on taking another online course to better accomodate my physical class and work times. I am glad that I am taking online courses because having the choice of when to complete my studies makes it easier to balance my busy schedule."

NEW! Online Student Orientation

Students learn the basic fundamentals of taking an online course through this orientation. It's available to students taking an online class through their Desire 2 Learn (D2L) site. In the Orientation, students learn the basics, essential skills, and technology used in online learning. The students get to see the real difference between online learning and face-to-face learning. If you are new to taking online courses and wish to be enrolled in the Online Student Orientation, please contact the Distance Education Department. Exciting news for WCU Online

In December 2016, West Chester University became a participant in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement, otherwise known as SARA. It's an agreement among member states, districts, and territories that establishes comparable national standards for interstate offering of postsecondary distance education courses and programs. SARA is overseen by a National Council and administered by four regional compacts. 48 states, as well as District of Columbia operate under SARA, which means any student that lives in those places are eligible to take West Chester University online courses. The map above is a quick guide. For more details please review the state authorization information carefully to determine whether WCU is authorized to offer online education to residents of your state. Still have questions? Call us at 610-436-3373 or email us at distanceed@wcupa.edu.

If you are considering an academic program that leads to a professional license in your state, YOU SHOULD first seek guidance from the appropriate licensing agency in your home state BEFORE beginning the academic program located outside your state.

Online program highlight

West Chester University was ranked #6 in 2017's Best Online Master's in Early Childhood Education

Based on the academic quality and outcomes, affordability, and the breath and depth of online learning opportunities, West Chester University was named the 6th best for its Online Early Childhood Education Master's Program for the year 2017. The advanced degree program prepares graduates for leadership positions as teachers, administrators, and advocates for young children and their families. Teachers who hold a master's degree in early childhood education earn higher salaries and enjoy lower unemployment rates than workers with bachelor's degrees. It's so much easier going back to school today because online programs allow the freedom of completing course requirements on their own time and are designed to work around your schedule.
