Amerigo Vespucci explorer

Amerigo Vespucci was born on March 9th, 1454 in Florence, Italy.His parents were Ser Nastagio and Lissabetta Mini .In his 20's Amerigo was sent on a mission to Paris. He also became a citizen of Spain in 1507.
In 1492 Amerigo helped Christopher Columbus sail. He also set sail on his first mission on March 10th,1497 with a bunch of Spanish ships. Amerigo's fleet reached South America in 5 weeks, and arrived in back in spain in 1498.
On his third voyage he discovered present day Rio de Janeiro, Amerigo believed that he discovered a new continent, he called South America the new world. Amerigo Vespucci suspected that the world was much much bigger than everyone thought.

  • Amerigo Vespucci became a citizen of Spain in 1505
  • Amerigo Vespucci became ill with malaria in Seville, Spain, in 1512.
  • He died on February 22nd, 1512
  • Amerigo died at the age of 58
