Sociology Class-310 at Washburn University has teamed up with local non-profit, Community Action, to provide diapers for families in need throughout Shawnee County. Federally funded programs assist low-income families with necessary items but often leave out diapers.
Diaper need is a hidden social issue, and our Sociology class want to raise public awareness by doing this fundraiser!
When families do not have the funds to pay for diapers, it creates larger issues in regards of mental and physical health of the family. Our goal is to bring awareness to this ongoing issue of families struggling to provide basic needs for their children. To help donate to the Washburn University Diaper Drive we have provided a link to a Go Fund Me page and you can drop off diapers to Washburns Union and Maybee Library.

Federal assistance programs typically fund necessities like formula but neglect to see diapers as a necessity. Many families reuse diapers when resources are not available. Reusing diapers causes skin rashes that can lead to infections and other health problems.
Most daycare facilities require a weeks worth of diapers or the services are declined. When child care is unavailable, it can result in loss of employment for the parent adding additional stress.
