RICHARD NIXON

Richard Nixon was a member of the House of Representatives when he was found to be involved in the trial of Alger Hiss. He provided information that would prove him guilty. That en devour aided him in winning the Senate, then VP, and finally President after many years. His warfare techniques in battle were modern and influenced modern military tactics. FUN FACT- Nixon was a Quaker.

VACCINE

The vaccine for the polio virus was discovered by Jonas Stalk during the 19th century, and was distributed to the world, which brought an end to the epidemic. The curing of the vaccine led to many medical advancements in the 20th century and Polio is no longer a virus that should be feared. FUN FACT- Although a very much feared virus, it was not even near the deadliest.

ALBERT EINSTEIN

Einstein became famous for his discovery of the Theory of Relativity. He was considered one of the smartest people of the century. He was fairly popular in the later years of his life He died in 1955. HIs finds and discoveries led to a massive advancements in the science communities. His finds are still used and taught today. FUN FACT- He was born in Germany to a Jewish family.

JOESPH STALIN

Joseph Stalin was a ruler of the Soviet Union for 2 decades. He was a harsh ruler but had millions in his following He began a reign of terror in his task of modernizing Russia. His impact on today's society showed everyone to carefully choose your leaders. Also, his ruling and terror he caused is now taught in schools. FUN FACT- He changed his name to Stalin, meaning "steel" in Russian.

ELVIS PRESLEY

Elvis Presley, AKA "the king", is known to be one of the most famous singers ever. He was a national phenomenon after his constant hits. He was called "Elvis the Pelvis" because of how he moved his hips when he danced. His influence on the modern society majorly impacted the music side of Hollywood, his use of dancing became popular with the crown and his bluesy tones are a favorite.FUN FACT- His famous black hair is actually dyed, he has brown hair.

DISNEYLAND

Disneyland opened in 1955 in Anaheim. California. Its a theme park imagined by Walt Disney, based on several cartoon characters he created. Its a family theme park with millions coming in every year. Its a popular vacation spot in modern times and many people go there every year for the experience. Its a household name. FUN FACT-An interesting and little-known fact is that although Disney forbade the serving of alcoholic beverages in Disneyland, he had a private suite in the park where bartenders would serve drinks to his personal guests.

SPACE MONKEY

In order to further space exploration, a living thing had to be sent to space in June 1949. Since a human wasn't a safe choice, everyone agreed sending a monkey to space would be the best idea. The US was the first country to launch the primate, or rather ANY primate into space. The monkey was sent to space and survived orbit, but died of suffocation on landing. This event MAJORLY developed space exploration and aided in sending humans to space. FUN FACT- The monkeys name was Albert

ERNEST HEMINGWAY

Ernest Hemingway was a famous poet. In 1945, he was a Nobel prize. But sadly in 1961 he committed suicide in Idaho. His works are now MAJOR classics in todays communities and he has influenced many other poets and writers. FUN FACT- He was a failed KBG spy.

JFK's ASSASSINATION

John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas in 1963. He was riding in an automobile and was shot by Harvey Oswald. His impact on today's society was an eye opener to advance security precautions for presidents. FUN FACT- On Nov. 11, 1963, President Kennedy laid a Veterans Day wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.

BIRTH CONTROL

Birth Control, also known as womb viels, became popular in the 1950s. The first human birth control pill was constructed in 1960. The first oral contraceptive, Enoviod, was approved by the FDA to use as a contraception. It has heavily influenced birth control today and has furthered it by the medicene being more unseful, working more, and working faster. FUN FACT- A woman in her 80's constructed it

RONALD REGAN

Ronald Regan brought an end to the Cold War by pressuring the Soviet Union. He also redefined the purpose of the government. HIs impact on todays society led to many lives being saved, and kept the government useful and put it in its place. FUN FACT- When he was a lifeguard he saved 77 peoples lives throughout that career.

WHEEL OF FORTUNE

The first Wheel of Fortune shows premiered in 1975. Its a very famous game in which the contestants spin and wheel and attempt to solve a puzzle on the board. If they guess wrong or land a bad turn on the wheel they are deducted points. Its a very famous game alot of people like to watch in their spare time. The "Wheel of Forture" theme song is a song all Americans have found stuck in their heads. FUN FACT- Pat Sajak and Vanna White were often drunk while filming the episodes.

WHY BILLY JOEL INCLUDED ALL OF THESE THINGS INTO HIS SONG " WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE "

He included all of this because the song was about a lot of important events that happened throughout his life. Each event, person, or advancement was a major thing in his life that happened.
