Birth Control Tales: Intrauterine Devices Aparna Sridhar and REbecca ROher
Dr. Aparna Sridhar MD MPH is an academic physician who specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and enjoys offering comprehensive health care throughout the continuum of a woman’s life. She has completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at New Jersey Medical School and fellowship in family planning at UCLA. She has also earned Masters in Public Health degree from Fielding School of Public Health at UCLA. Dr. Sridhar’s research interest revolves around using technology for contraception education. She has developed a mobile application for contraception information called “Plan A Birth Control”. This mobile application is geared towards counseling women about reversible contraception options in the United States. Through this new “Birth Control Tales” application, she is starting a new revolution of educating young adults about birth control methods in an innovative and interactive way.
Rebecca Roher is a cartoonist, illustrator and educator from Toronto, Ontario. She has studied creation and dissemination of comics at the Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction, Vermont- graduating with a Masters of Fine Her comic, Mom Body, which was first published by GUTS Magazine and later republished by the Nib and Bitch Media, was nominated for an Ignatz Award and has been featured on the New York Times Now App, Huffington Post, BuzzFeed and Yahoo Parenting. Since then, she has been working with various medical research organizations to create graphic materials about reproductive health. She is currently running auto-biographical comics workshops for teens at public libraries in priority neighbourhoods all over Toronto with support from the Michaëlle Jean Foundation and TD Bank.Find more of her work on www.rebeccaroher.com.
