Parent Tips from the Counselors
Tip #1: Middle school is a time of increased responsibilities for our students. One responsibility that can often be a challenge is just arriving at school with all the right materials. Try using a simple checklist like this one to assist your student as they get ready to leave the house in the morning. Hang it somewhere easy to see. A visual reminder can help them remember those everyday items that are easy to forget as they rush out the door.
Tip#2: Studying for tests can be a daunting task for some students. Now imagine your 8th grader taking their first exams. It's coming up soon! Try some strategies like the ones mentioned HERE to help your student prepare and create habits for the future.

Progress Report Time...Soon
We are near the halfway point in the second nine weeks of school. Progress report grades will be posted in the Parent Portal of Infinite Campus on Thursday, 11/19. When logged into the parent portal of IC, parents should locate this progress report under documents.
8th grade exams -- Eighth graders will take semester exams during the week of 12/14- 12/18/2021. Please be on the lookout for communication from your student's teachers if you are the parent of an 8th grader regarding how to assist your student in preparing for exams as well as the time/date when each exam will occur.
Report cards will be sent home with brick and mortar students on January 13, 2021. They will also be posted on the documents section of the parent portal in Infinite Campus for all students (both brick and mortar as well as virtual).
January 7, 2021 is the start of the 3rd 9 weeks, so students will receive their new schedules in Infinite Campus and Schoology which will include new connections courses for most students as well as some changes to academic courses based on changing student needs for support or acceleration, balancing of class sizes, and students who requested a change in setting on the survey sent to families by the district in October. If there are any concerns regarding your child's schedule, parents should contact Ms. Gumerson at email@example.com to request a schedule change no later than Monday, 1/10/2021. No requests will be processed after the third day of the quarter. Changes will only be made due to scheduling errors (i.e., duplicate academic class, missing class, due to size constraints of classes, or for health/safety reasons based on a note from a physician).
Students will be out of school Wednesday, Nov. 25 - Friday, Nov. 27 for Thanksgiving Break.
8th grade boys and girls basketball tryouts will be held Thurs. Jan. 7- Mon. Jan. 11. Students interested in trying out are required to pass all classes on the 1st semester report card (Aug. 2020 - Dec. 2020). In addition, FCBOE required athletic paperwork (GHSA Sports Physical, Parental Consent & Insurance Verification, Code of Conduct Contract, Concussion and Severe Cardiac Arrest form) should be placed in the Athletic Box located in the front office by Monday, Dec. 14 or emailed to Cindy Crosby at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Social Distancing-Face Masks-Attendance
In an effort to keep crowds to a minimum and maintain social distancing it is recommended that only parents/adult family members of the athletes participating attend sporting events. Students will only be allowed to attend games under the direct supervision of a parent/guardian at all times during the event.
Masks/face coverings will be required for all indoor FCBOE athletic events. Mask/face coverings will be strongly recommended for outdoor FCBOE athletic events. Thank you for your cooperation in the interest of safety.

Parent Volunteer Opportunity
WHEN: December 17th and 18th
Our teachers asked for the "gift of time"...Please join us December 17th and 18th from 10am-2pm in the media center. We will wrap gifts for our staff and enjoy some snacks and holiday music. Wrapping paper and supplies will be supplied. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to participate.

Our school store will be up and running shortly so please be on the lookout for that so that your student can represent apparel for the Broncos.
Our monthly meetings are the 1st Monday of each month at 6:30pm in the media center. We will have a community speaker at each meeting so please join us to stay abreast of topics that may affect your student(s).
