What are the different ways to make a public comment?

Note: Limited space is available for neighbors to attend City public meetings in person during the COVID-19 health emergency. The City continues to offer safe and convenient ways to participate in meetings from home.

Make a public comment in person or from home

Visit the City's Public Meeting Calendar to find the public comment options for each upcoming meeting.

Comment by phone

Regular City Commission Meetings (1st & 3rd Thursdays of each month)

  • Before the meeting: Submit a General Public Comment on a topic that is not on the meeting agenda. Dial 352-334-5003 to record a voice message (up to 3 minutes each). The line opens on 8:00am on Friday and closes at Noon on Wednesday before the meeting. 30 minutes of recorded messages will be played at the start of the meeting. Additional comments will be taken live if time permits
  • During the Meeting: Share Live Comments on agenda items by dialing toll-free 1 (800) 876-7516 to comment on a meeting agenda item.
  • Call the City Clerk's Office: Dial (352) 334-5015 during business hours to share a comments with the City Clerk or to schedule an appointment with a Commissioner.

Tips for Public Comment by phone

  • State your name clearly for the record.
  • To avoid feedback, turn off the sound on your computer or device if you are watching the meeting online.
  • Each speaker will have three minutes to comment.

Send an eComment on an agenda item.

Submit an "eComment" for the record on meeting agenda items. The eComment feature will open on the City's website the Friday before each City Commission meeting.

  1. On the City of Gainesville's website, go to the "Agenda & Minutes" page (link at the top of the home page).
  2. Find the upcoming meeting on the list.
  3. Click the “eComment” link.
  4. Find the agenda topic you want to comment on.
  5. Click the Comment button.
  6. Write your comment and click the Submit button.
