Tribunes win sixth straight with win over Mercyhurst NE April 13, 2017

Rochester NY (April 13th, 2017): The Monroe CC Tribunes (6 – 2) men’s lacrosse team won their sixth straight game on Wednesday, beating Mercyhurst NE, 20 to 3. Freshman Nick Kallio (Livonia) led the Tribunes with eleven points (four goals and seven assists). Sophomore Hudson Weil (Williamsville East) and Freshman Austin Jobson (Victor) were the leading goal scorers for Monroe CC with five goals each. Weil chipped in with four assists on the day, as well.

The Tribunes and Saints are ready....

Monroe had another big first quarter, scoring six goals to the Saints one goal. The Tribunes opened the scoring less then three minutes into the game with Sophomore Jake Moss (Wayne) scoring on a feed from Weil. Less then a minute later, Kallio (with another assist from Weil) found the first of his four goals on the day. Eight minutes later, Weil found his first first goal of the game with a feed from Kallio. The Tribunes scored three more goals to close out the quarter, leading the game 6 to 0 after one.

Sophomore Jake Moss (Wayne) finished with one goal and three assists.

The Tribunes scored three more goals in the second quarter, including a goal by Weil with an assist from Kallio with three seconds left in the quarter. The Tribunes led at halftime, 9 to 1.

Monroe CC scored another five goals in the third quarter including two goals from Kallio and Weil. Jobson scored his third of the day. The Tribunes took a commanding 14 to 2 lead.

The Saints opened the scoring less then a minute into the quarter but the Tribunes answered with a goal from Jobson. Sophomore Conner Nicholson (Wayne) and Freshman Brandon Barnhart (Greece Arcadia) answered with goals of their own. Nicholson finished with two goals and Barnhart scored one goal against Mercyhurst NE. Freshman Patrick Brewer (Haverling) scored less then two minutes after Nicholson with a nice feed from Moss.

The Tribunes defense was able to shut out Mercyhurst NE for a majority of the game including the last 14 minutes of the game. Goalie Mark Campbell (Waterloo) made eight saves on the day. The defense played great and were led by Freshmen Trevor Knoepfler (Webster Thomas), Matt Kegler (Spencerport), Santana Deada (Wayne), Cody Matteson (Wayne) and Sophomores Ryan Boadway (Bloomfield) and Cole Crawford (Wayne).

Boadway led the Tribunes with fourteen ground ball. Knoepfler had two caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Mark Campbell had eight saves in net for the Tribunes.
Patrick Brewer had one goal and three assists against the Saints.

Sophomore Dave Lehman (Webster Schroeder) scored one goal on the day, but also was very active on the Tribunes ride, causing numerous turnovers and scooping up six ground balls.

Sophomore Richard Sacchetti (Hilton) led the Tribunes with seventeen face wins and eight ground balls against the Saints.

The Tribunes host #1 Onondaga CC Saturday, April 15th for a 1:00 pm start. The Tribunes then hit the road to Maryland to play two games down south before playing at Hudson Valley CC on Saturday, April 22nd.
