September Counseling Lessons

Pin the Role on the Counselor allowed K-2 students to identify the role of a School Counselor by determining which statements should be "pinned" on the counselor and which should be "pinned" on the trash can. Students even drew their version of Mr. Rocco! (which was quite comical)
BRE 3-5 students learned the role of a School Counselor via our Get to Know the Counselor S'MORE Lesson! Each layer stood for a specific objective. They, of course, were drooling as we worked with real s'mores (which I ate, haha). The most important layer (in my opinion) is the sweet stuff … the Classroom Counseling Lessons as universal topics get to be discussed. Topics such at empathy, resilience, mindfulness, grit, bullying and so much more!
Buster the Bus visited our K-3 students … educating them about Bus Safety (on and off the bus)!

Upcoming counseling lessonS

Mindfulness and how our emotions can be like a can of soda ---> when shaken they can erupt. How do we recognize the build-up of emotions (i.e. anger) via cues (i.e. increased heart rate)? What strategies can we implement when our emotions get "shaken"? This will be the topic of our next Classroom Counseling Lesson (aka/ the sweet stuff).
Kids on the Block will be visiting BRE on November 6, teaching:

Kindergarten: Three Ways to be Hurt Free: Stranger Danger, Area Codes, and Emergency Plans

Grades 1 & 2: Rescue and Report: Bullying Prevention and Mental Health Education

Grades 3, 4, & 5: Cyberbullying / Safe at School

The Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) will be presenting to our BRE students Nov. 12 - 16, teaching the importance of safety rules, boundaries, identifying a safe adult, and how to act in unsafe situations. The Safer Smarter Kids curriculum is designed to have different, more advanced lessons for each grade level.

The 5th grade class will be taking a field trip to UTC on Nov. 30 for CK Now! College Knowledge Now is an educational program that exposes 5th grade students to college and career information.
