LES Elementary August 28, 2020

A Note from the Principal...

Wow! I can't believe the month of August is almost over! We've had a busy week at Loogootee Elementary learning about our 'Mane' Traits this week. Check out below to see what we've been learning about. Have a great weekend!

Important Information

'Mane' Traits of a Lion

LCSC has incorporated the 'Mane' Traits of a Lion for Success. The ten traits above are a common set of expectations for Loogootee students K-12 to learn and live by. Over the last week, Mrs. Wade visited classrooms to explain the Mane traits and what each one looks like at school. These Mane Traits are also used to encourage positive behavior.

Each month, we highlight a Mane Trait and select someone from each class as Student of the Month. Each student also has a Mane Trait card that they can get punched when a teacher observes the traits in action. Once a student gets 10 punches on their card, they can turn it in for a prize and are recognized at Monday Morning Meetings. At the end of each month, we have a drawing for 10 winners to win bigger prizes. We will also be drawing one card at the end of the year for a Grand Prize!

Accelerated Reader Program

Practice makes perfect! One of the best predictors of academic success is the amount of time a child spends reading. In order to improve reading skills, students need to practice their reading at least 15 minutes each day. To encourage our students to read, we have an Accelerated Reading (AR) Challenge. Books that students check out from the public library, read at school, or have at home are likely to have an AR test your child can take at school. This year, students will earn what we call, "Brag Tags" for different points levels. Brag Tags will be handed out after earning the following points: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50. 65, 80, 100, 125, 150, 175, and 200 points. Classroom teachers set up their own reward systems, too. You can use the link below to search book titles to find out how many points books are worth.

LES Trash Bag Fundraiser

We kicked off the trash bag fundraiser on Thursday. Please help support our school! This year, money will need to be collected and turned in when orders are turned in. This is just in case we would happen to have to close prior to receiving orders.

LES Picture Day

School pictures will be on Tuesday, September 14th. In the past, we have taken class pictures on the same day. Due to our current situation, we are going to wait on class pictures. If things get better in the future, we may possibly schedule class pictures at a later date. Picture envelopes will be sent home, however, you may also order pictures online. Please see information attached below.
