After hearing from another former player about his experience with the Milestone Wellness Assessment, former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Craig Bingham was eager to take advantage of the comprehensive exam. Wasting no time, Bingham kicked off 2018 with a visit to Cleveland Clinic for the two-day program.
The Milestone Wellness Assessment is a medical benefit designed specifically for players who have been out of the league for 15+ years. Bingham's experience at Cleveland Clinic was an enjoyable one, and he was thankful for the thoroughness of everything.
"I was extremely impressed, and there didn't seem to be any wasted time," Bingham, current treasurer of the Pittsburgh Former Players chapter, said of the visit. "My guide was excellent, and as we conversed about different things he walked me through the things we'd be doing, the schedule and the doctors we would see, and everything was spot on."
Former players who participate in the Milestone Wellness Assessment are taken through a multitude of medical tests designed specifically for their health needs. These tests include, but are not limited to: internal medicine, orthopedics, sleep, nutrition and neurology.
Bingham said his experience at Cleveland Clinic was reminiscent of the thoroughness of the exams at the NFL Combine, and he compared the importance of completing medical check-ups to performing regular maintenance on a car.
"Let's say you have a nice car - do you get the tires checked? Do you put gas in it? If the answer is yes, then why wouldn't you do that to your body? If you don't get it checked, it could expire at any time and it could have been something that was relatively simple and could have been taken care of, had you gotten checked up."

Bingham's positive experience with the Milestone Wellness Assessment has also led him to consider pursuing other benefits within The Trust, including the Scholarship Award Benefit.
