How to Build a Camelback Bridge By Elaine WolTer

Materials:

  • Three-hundred popsicle sticks
  • One bottle of Elmers Glue
  • Lots of paper clips
  • Lots of rubber bands
  • News papers to put on the table
  • A calculator to count how many sticks you have
  • Three rectangles of styrofoam

Instructions

  • Place news paper on the table
  • Get 8 popsicle sticks
  • Glue them on end to end to make a long stick
  • Repeat steps 2 and 3 so you have 2 long sticks glued together end to end
  • Slide paper clips in where you glued the sticks together
  • Wait for everything to dry
  • Once the glue on the sticks are dry, put them down horizontally
  • Glue more sticks on top of the sticks in the opposite direction to make a smooth platform
  • Put paper clips in where you glued them so they don't fall off
  • Wait for everything to dry
  • Start making the walls
  • Get 8 popsicle sticks
  • Glue them on end to end to make a long stick
  • Put paper clips where you glued them
  • Make another long stick with 8 popsicle sticks glued on the ends
  • Put paper clips in where you glue the sticks together
  • Wait for everything to dry
  • Once they are dry make an arch that is as long as the long sticks
  • Once you glue it, it should look like a hump on a camels back
  • With the other long stick repeat step 17 and 18
  • Once your done with the arches, slide paper clips into where you glued them together so they don't come apart
  • Wait for everything to dry
  • Lay the arches down flat
  • Glue and connect popsicle sticks in the center of the arches
  • Paper clip the spots where you glued them
  • Wait for everything to dry
  • Lay the platform down flat
  • Glue the bottom of the arches to the sides of the platform
  • Strap at least 7 rubber bands around the platform and the bottom of the arches
  • Put 3 rectangular blocks of styrofoam in the bridge
  • Wait for everything to dry
  • Glue 5 X's with the popsicle sticks
  • Glue two horizontal sticks on the side of the X's
  • Paper clip the glued parts on the sticks
  • Wait for everything to dry
  • Take the X's and glue them flat across the top of the bridge
  • Wait for everything to dry
  • Enjoy your bridge
