Central Dispatch CGEMC Newsletter | April 2019

Cgemc is the third lowest-cost energy provider in the state of georgia!

The Public Service Commission’s Winter Residential Survey annually ranks all 94 electric providers in Georgia. We are proud to announce that Central Georgia EMC ranked among the lowest-cost providers at both the 1,500 kilowatt-hour (kWh) and 2,000 kWh levels! To provide some context, the average consumer uses about 1,500 kWh per month.

What does that mean for you?

You have a dedicated team at CGEMC looking out for your best interests by keeping your rates as low as possible while still delivering the reliable service you need to run your life.

It also means you save more on your energy use than 97 percent of the state! At the 1,500 kWh level, that’s a savings of $37.56 per month when compared to the state average.

So, go ahead! Enjoy the power to do more with your hard-earned income, assured that we have your back when it comes to providing low-cost energy you can rely on!

A Lineman's Day

We appreciate our linemen every day of the year, but April 8 is special... it’s National Lineman Appreciation Day! What is a day at the “office” like for a lineperson?

Their day begins before sunrise as they leave their homes and families to serve you. A typical day involves maintaining electrical distribution lines, connecting new services to homes and businesses, or making repairs.

During severe weather, power restoration is the top priority. While most of us head inside, our crew members head out wearing over 50 lbs of protective equipment and tools to get the job done safely and efficiently. No matter the time of day or weather (even holidays), they are committed to their jobs and communities.

Please take a moment to say thank you to our linemen for their bravery, sacrifices, and hard work. They work hard to bring power to you and understanding how important their job is powers them.

Central Georgia EMC is a great place to work! If you know someone considering a career as a lineman, please share this video with them.

Georgia landfill produces clean energy

CGEMC and our partner in clean energy, Green Power EMC, offer you environmentally friendly, renewable energy form the most unlikely of places...a landfill!

Biomass energy sourced from the Taylor County Landfill is generated from the reclaimed methane gas naturally produced in the landfill. The clean energy is then transmitted to the power grid for consumption. The beauty of this process is two-fold: dangerous methane gas is removed from the environment and clean energy is sent to consumers.

We are excited to offer our clean energy minded customer-owners the option to include Biomass in their energy mix. CGEMC offers 150-kilowatt-hour blocks of biomass energy for only $4.50 per month on your energy bill.

Our clean energy program is Green-e Energy Certified by the Center for Resource Solutions.

Central Georgia EMC Announces Unclaimed Capital Credit Checks for 2018

CGEMC is a not-for-profit organization. This means any excess revenue, after covering operating costs, is returned to our customer-owners in the form of a capital credit check (based on each customer-owner’s energy use).

In December 2018, CGEMC issued capital credit refund checks for the remaining margins of 2000 and a majority of 2001. However, some of the refund checks issued were returned by the U.S. Postal Service as “undeliverable.” A list of the names of these customer-owners can be found by visiting our website, www.cgemc.com, or by viewing the list at our office located at 923 South Mulberry Street, Jackson, GA 30233.

If you know the correct address of these individuals or have any helpful information, please contact our office or notify the customer-owner to contact us as soon as possible by calling 770-775-7857 or 1-800-222-4877.

Operation round up spotlight: jay's hope

CGEMC customer-owners who participate in Operation Round Up donate an average of 50 cents per month. That small change makes a big difference for local non-profit organizations - like Jay's HOPE Foundation, who received $2,500 for Camp HOPE 4 Kids, a summer camp for children affected by childhood cancer.

In 2012, Jay's HOPE started a simple summer program to offer therapeutic art events for children battling cancer. Siblings were invited to attend as well. The vision started with 10-15 children, but the reality became more than 40 campers, ages 4-18. By the end of the first week, the organization knew they had found a need greater than they imagined.

Today, the week-long summer camp serves more than 140 patients and siblings, free of charge, thanks in part to the generosity of our Operation Round Up participants.

Many of our patients cannot attend conventional summer camps because of their compromised immune systems or because finances are tight," says Camp Director Christie Johnson. "Thanks to support from community donors, like the Central Georgia EMC Foundation, we are able to offer a safe camp experience."
I didn't realize there were so many kids like me battling cancer until I came to Camp HOPE," says Michael. "It's so cool to be able to share experiences and have fun. It helps me feel less alone."
