Desert Willow Elementary Learning for life and loving to learn May 5, 2021

This week, our teachers and staff are being showered with appreciation and thanks for their hard work. And they deserve every bit of it. But this year, I want to extend teacher appreciation to our students' first teachers - you! This year has been filled with unexpected twists and turns, interruptions, and challenges. Many of you stepped up to be teachers and partners with the staff at Desert Willow in new and exciting ways, and your children are thriving because of it.

If you were teaching your student during distance learning in August, thank you. If your child was placed in a mandatory quarantine this year, you stepped up to help them learn; thank you. If your child was enrolled in a different program or campus for part of the year and recently returned to DWES, thank you. Your child has learned this year because we are a team - and I know that we couldn't have done it without each other. So while you are taking the time to help your kids thank their teacher this week, please accept my heartfelt thanks. Teacher appreciation week is one short week near the end of a (very long) school year - and this year we are ALL teachers.

Health Office News

Please stop by the health office by noon on May 20th to pick up any prescription and/or over the counter medication(s) your child has and sign the end of year report. Medications will NOT be signed out to students. We are required to destroy all medications (prescription and over the counter) not picked up by May 20th.

Roadrunners are Respectful, Responsible, & Kind

This month, our school wide theme is empathy. We’ll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect the same and different feelings, and show compassion. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.

You can extend this idea at home by talking about your own feelings and modeling empathy for others.
