Swede fall sports 2018 Rachel Darling & Cara Hudson

Varsity Football: The Gothenburg Football program improved their overall record to 2-0 on the season with a 21-0 victory over SWC rival Cozad. Owen Geiken led the team in rushing with 108 yards and a touchdown. Trenton Harbur had a good night on the ground as well with 100 yards and a touchdown. Maquire Bartlett added a QB sneak in the second half for a touchdown and finished with 56 yards rushing. The Swedes once again dominated on the defensive side of the ball. Tucker Wyatt and Brennan Seitsinger led the way with 7.5 total tackles. The Swedes are now ranked #6 in Class C-1 in the Omaha World Herald.

Varsity Volleyball: The Varsity Volleyball team had their first game August 28th against Southern Valley who is ranked 8th in Class C2. The Swedes put up a good fight winning the first two sets but losing the last three.

Varsity Softball:  Lady Swedes have gone 6-6 and have a team batting average of .426. They started off their season with a big win against McCook who were district champs last season. The softball team continued their winning ways with an 11-6 win over Lexington. Kaitlyn Kleinknecht hit a two run home-run to put the game out of reach for Lexington. At the McCook Invite, the Swedes went 1-2 and finished in 4th place. The team scored 22 runs with 28 hits on the weekend. The team batting average was .315. Avery Dunphy went 7 for 13 at the plate with 5 RBIs.

Cross Country: The Swedes Cross Country team has 12 boys and with the graduation of 3 male Seniors, key roles have been revealed. William Anderson and Preston Smith have both stepped up this season shaving off over a minute and a half over last seasons personal records. The boys and girls Cross Country team competed in the Lexington and Minden Invite last week. They had a great start to the season, bringing home medals at both meets. Amber Brown finished in 9th place for the girls at the Lexington Invite. At the Minden Invite, Hannah Anderson finished in 6th place and Arissa Ackerman close behind in the 11th spot. William Anderson finished in 6th place and Preston Smith in 15th for the boys' race.

Golf: The golf team opened up the season at the Kearney Catholic Invite. They finished in 5th place as a team and were led by three individual medalists: Annica Harm (8th), Kenzie Graham (10th), and Devyn Ostendorf (11th).
