Technology Based Classroom's some people think that technology in classroom's beneit, meanwhile others disagree.

GLOSSARY:

Technology: An application used in society to benefit people.

social interactions: being able to talk to others in a likable manner.

Management: dealing with or controlling things or people.

Developed: the ability to put together certain things.

Technologies: something used that requires internet and a device.

Distracted: the ability to focus on the opposite of your target.

On average how much does it cost for a school to get the most advanced technologies?

The cost of a single device is about $325 per student, but the student doesn't pay that exact value. That only pays for insurance and that price can vary. It all depends on how many students are in the school. That doesn't include the money it costs for the wifi, for there to be wifi in schools it costs about $800 million per year (Cavazos). Wifi is a main necessity if the school is technology based. Money isn’t the only factor contributing to technologies in school, the way the technology is used also a big factor as well. When students received their device money had to be put down for insurance if anything were to happen. Tom Lifer, a principal at Legacy Elementary School, states, “Around $50-$100 covers insurance costs for the amount of time the student would have their device"(Hafer). If the device is damaged the insurance money will go to the school and then the school will pay the rest of the money for repairs.

How do students misuse their devices?

Students with these devices tend to misuse them and become more focused on the screen rather than the what's going on around them. Management with these devices is very important. On average more than 50% of students become anti social with these technologies over powering social interaction (Cordell). All this time put into these devices separates people from virtual reality and reality and once taken out of this element students don't know how to interact with each other. So much time is put into these devices whether it's school work or not they forget about other things. Technology based classrooms are beneficial only if used the right way. Some tend to misuse the device and play games or go on social media rather than paying attention in class(Hafer). Having a device is a privilege and students tend to misuse that privilege, which leads to certain sites blocked. Schools tend to observe how students behave with these devices and take appropriate action that is needed.

What are some benefits to technology in schools?

Technology helps students develop skills that can be used in the outside world. Most people using technologies benefit their learning by developing the ability to problem solve, collaborate, research, be creative, communicate, analyze and evaluate(Halvorson). The technologies are used on a daily basis, by using it so much students skills begin to grow stronger and stronger. By using technology the users have slowly developed all those skills. Once those skills are developed the knowledge behind each device is more in depth. All those skills can be applied to variety of things outside of the device as well. Students improve their learning by 12% from the beginning of the year to the end of the year (Hafer). Each skill is a benefit for the future and helps with social interaction outside the schools.

How do students get distracted?

One of the biggest disadvantage of technologies in classrooms is that students get distracted by other things going on, on the screen. Students find other, more entertaining things on the device rather than listening to the teacher/professor. Robert Hill,a teacher, states, “ My students think I don’t know what they are really doing, but I do. Their focus is being taken away from me, the speaker, and is put into staring at the screen”(Halvorson). When students stare at the device for more than two minutes teachers know that there is something going on, that is obviously not educational. More than 50% of students watch some sort of show/movie or play games on their device (Hafer). These disadvantages take away from students learning and may increase failure in the future.

What will happen to communication skills if the these devices continue to be a part of the school day in the future?

Communication skills will decrease due to no human to human interaction. Students will not develop the proper skills it will take to communicate with another person. Jennifer Holm, a concerned parents of a student states, “ My daughter doesn’t have a life outside her device, she is constantly doing homework, or playing games, no interaction with friends, just the device”(Cordell). Students with these devices are overtaken by them and don’t want any human to human interaction because the electronic is more interesting and more fun than spending time with family and friends..Not only do these devices take the students away from friends, it also takes away the motivation to get a job. Over 56% of students have developed laziness and do not have the motivation to get a job because Netflix is a lot more important than real life (Delany). This laziness that is created isn’t going to help the students in the future, what will help them is human interaction.Looking into the future students aren't going to be able to go to college without these devices, now that the device trend has started it will only develop more and become used more everyday.
