Passage of the world by Ryan Michel

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word "passage" in a few ways:

One is a way of exit or entrance : the action or process of passing from one place, condition, or stage to another. An other, a usually brief portion of a written work or speech that is relevant to a point under discussion or noteworthy for content or style

A few of these passages stood out to me. "The Alchemist" is full of them. I hope they might help you in life and to find your passage.

" You must understand that love never keeps a man from pursuing his Personal Legend. If he abandons the pursuit, it's because it wasn't true love (124)."

The verse says: A person never really loved that person if they didn't want them to be happy, even if it's not with them. A "love and let go" if you will. In "The Alchemist" the main character, Santiago, has a dream, of which he has to leave his love to go after.

" Suddenly, one of the hawks made a flashing dive through the sky, attacking the other. As it did so, a sudden fleeting image came to the boy: an army, with its swords at the ready, riding into the oasis (103)."

The section explains: The universe will help you in your time of need. Whether it be the luck of the draw, or in Santiago's case, predict the future of armies. Trust in your intuition and the universe will guide you.

" I had a recurrent dream, too. I dreamed that I should travel to the fields of Spain and look for a ruined church... and I was told that, if I dug at the roots of the sycamore, I would find a hidden treasure. But I'm not so stupid (167-168)."

The man didn't trust in his dream so he didn't look for his treasure. It shows how you have to go after your dreams and believe in yourself. Also, Santiago's dream is that a child was going to tell him where the treasure was, it came true. However, he did get Santiago's gold so a win, win.

"He had no idea how he was going to transform himself into the wind..." Don't give into your fears," said the alchemist in a strangely gentle voice." If you do, you won't be able to talk to your heart" (146)."

Santiago was told to turn into the wind. If not he was going to be killed. He was afraid, but he needed to talk to his heart, if he wanted to get it done. He had the help of "The Alchemist" though. Fear can be very destructive if not kept in check.

" the Englishman took a chrome-plated revolver out of his bag... " It helped me to trust in people" (91-92)."

Fear can be dreadful but, it can also be helpful. In this case it helped the English man because it helped him to trustful. He heeded the power of fear and came out unscathed.

I hope you will take these quotes and run with them. Maybe one day you'll inspire someone to do great, or maybe, do so yourself.
