The Maya flourished during Mesoamerica's Formative period. This caused the history to divide the history of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica into several periods

The Maya survived mainly by hunting and farming to get most of their food.

Their accomplishments included Living in the gulf of Mexico for 1,000 years and having an influence in the region till 300 BC.

They left buildings that looked like Monumental sacred complexes and massive stone sculptures
