SUMMER MISSIONS WITH CRU DIGITAL DISCUSSION GUIDE

HOW TO USE THIS SUMMER DISCUSSION GUIDE

Grab a friend, mentor, or your small group. Together, follow this step-by-step guide. Walk through your summer plans - trusting God along the way.

1

What do you want for your summer? How will this summer influence your life (finances, classes & career, family, friends & relationships, personal growth, relationship with God, and affect on other in the world)? Knowing you only have a few summers left before getting a full-time job, what difference will this summer make?

GUIDE: Have a conversation about past summers - theirs and yours. Did you go anywhere? Do anything? What did you do for a job? What were your friendships like? What did your relationship with God look like during the summer?

2

GOD CARES ABOUT YOUR SUMMER

You may have never asked God to direct your summer plans before. Now is a great time to start. Ask God to guide you to the summer that He has planned for you. (You probably won't hear an answer yet, but it's good to start the conversation.)

God desires us to pursue a personal relationship with him and have faith that produces action. Maybe that's already a reality in your life or perhaps it's something you want to be true of yourself. Whatever the case, God wants you to grow in your relationship with him, glorify him and increase your faith.

GUIDE: Take a minute to pray for God to open their hearts to His desires for their summer. God will be glorified as they trust Him for their summer. Remember, the goal is not for them to go on a Summer Mission. The goal is for them to listen to what God wants for their summer - whatever it is, wherever it is.

God can work through you to change people's lives. Often it takes training, experience, and a faith-filled attitude.

Talk about your comfort level of ministering to others using the following scales:

GUIDE: Help the person to have a realistic picture of themselves. It is rare for someone to be a "6" in these areas unless they've had years of development in these skills. Encourage them that they can take the next step.

Now picture yourself in ten years - on the job, in a neighborhood, in your family, in your church. What kind of spiritual influence would you like to have in those places? On the scales, indicate a second number showing where you would like to be in ten years. How can this summer start moving you towards being able to make a difference in someone's life?

GUIDE: Here is a quick Bible Study to do together.

What are some of the costs of following Jesus?

What were some of the risks the followers faced as they went on the mission trip?

What might have been some of the risks for the followers if they had stayed?

What do you think the disciples learned and experienced through their mission trip?

How did they see God work IN them?

How did they see God work THROUGH them?
