First Grade!

Welcome back hybrid learners! We are almost half-way through first grade! Wow! We aren't giving homework this year while still remote, but reading is SO important. First grade is a major year for reading development. Please make sure your child is reading daily after school hours for 10 to 15 minutes. Your child can read Journeys books, the black and white books that have been sent home, or from their personal book supply. Just read! Remember... Reading is like bathing. You need to do it every day!

Third Grade

Students have been measuring in Math and learning about the attributes of quadrilaterals and other polygons. We are Writing in all of our subject areas, always striving to answer questions in complete sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation. We’re closing in on the end of our Native American unit of study and Science will replace Social Studies in the 3rd marking period. Continue to memorize basic multiplication facts, especially the 2s, 5s, 10s and doubles. Students should be able to give the answer in 3-5 seconds. Try to find fun ways to practice these facts throughout your day and before you know it, you’ll have them memorized!

4th graders were treated to a special virtual meeting with local author Jenni Walsh last Friday. The children were so engaged and really enjoyed her presentation. She talked about how powerful and influential our words can be. She also shared the process involved in writing a book. Check out the flyer your child's teacher shared with your or feel free to check out her website jenniwalsh.com.

As you know, we are nearing the end of Unit 3 in Everyday Math. We will be testing by the end of next week. Please refer to your child's Unit 3 math packet, pages 1 & 2 for ways to help your child prepare for this math test.
