Note from Mr Higginbottom

Hello! It has been another really busy week for us all in school! I have loved being in more lessons and seeing some great teaching and learning. Staff and I met this week to consider the behaviour of our children around school - we're really pleased with the way they show kindness and respect to each other. We feel that our focus needs to be on children's learning behaviours. We're identifying our priorities for children's learning behaviours and will be 'spot lighting' these behaviours. The first thing that we want to focus on as a whole school is the skill of independence. Children will learn about this and other skills during the next term and we'll be helping children to see how they can demonstrate independence at a level appropriate for their year group.

Staff have established routines and expectations with their children, including a strong encouragement for children to read at home, practise spellings, etc. Please support your child to routinely work on these skills, it really will help them to make faster progress with their learning. If you're unsure how to help, please contact your child's teacher or phase leader in the first instance and they will be happy to work with you.

Whole school attendance is currently 94.1%, which is below national expectations. Please help us to secure good attendance across school. A new attendance policy, detailing rewards and support for children's attendance will be published in the coming weeks. Please also help your child's learning by supporting them to arrive at school in time for the start of registration. if your child needs to attend a medical appointment that cannot be planned outside of the school day, please always try to come to school first and then you can collect your child at the appropriate time to take them to the appointment.

Phase Leader/ Head teacher Meetings

A reminder that the first of our Head teacher/Phase leader meetings for parents will will take place on Monday 27th September at 5pm in the school hall. To avoid overcrowding, one parent from each family (of children in the foundation stage only) is invited to this meeting, without children.

The Head teacher/Phase leader meeting for lower key stage 2 (Y3/4) will take place on Thursday 30th September, also at 5pm in the school hall, with the same attendance restrictions as above.

Football Club for Children in Y5/6

As part of preparations for our participation in the Totty Cup this year, we're really grateful that a parent has offered to run an after school club to help children to be ready to compete. This will be for a maximum of 30 children in years 5 and 6. Further details of this after school club will be sent out on Monday or Tuesday.

INSET Days and Holidays

Just a reminder that we have TWO INSET days coming up - Friday 22nd October and Monday 1st November are staff training days. That means that children finish for the October half term break on Thursday 21st October and return to school on Tuesday 2nd November.

The autumn term ends on Friday 17th December. Children return to school after Christmas on Tuesday 4th January 2022.

Enjoy the Weekend!
