NOW HIRING: SUPERINTENDENT/CEO METRO TECHNOLOGY CENTERS

ABOUT METRO TECHNOLOGY CENTERS

As Oklahoma’s most diverse technology center, Metro Tech is fully engaged in a vibrant community that is the home to Oklahoma’s largest business district and a dynamic urban population. Located in our state’s capital, at the center of our state’s largest city, Metro Technology Center seeks a Superintendent/CEO to lead our Career and Technology Center District into the next decade. Diverse in both staff and student demographics, Metro Tech serves over 94,000 customers each year in a district that exceeds 140 square miles.

Oklahoma City is a thriving, innovative community where dreamers envision big ideas, confident that these big ideas will be brought to life through the talents of a wide variety of workforce development professionals trained by Metro Technology Centers. Many of OKC’s technicians and craftsmen are alumni of Metro Technology Centers; leading businesses and providing solutions to our industries.

With nearly 300 full-time and over 400 part-time or adjunct employees, our leadership strategy is deployed through a system of practice identified by authors Kouzes and Posner. Their book The Leadership Challenge, describes 5 practices of exemplary leadership. Our teams recognize this leadership system by its acronym, MICEE. Over the past twenty years, we have established the expectation that our leaders and employees incorporate the following beliefs into our work together:

  • Model the way
  • Inspire a shared vision
  • Challenge the process
  • Enable others to act
  • Encourage the heart

A CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE

Annually our Board of Education, our leaders, our employees and our stakeholders evaluate district progress towards achieving our mission, Preparing people for successful employment and life in a global society. In a continuous quest for excellence, Metro Tech applied for and achieved the state’s highest award for quality twice in the past 10 years. Our business model is based on the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award process and we have implemented many cycles of improvement since we began our quality journey in 2001.

In recent years we simplified our strategic plan and our planning processes. Our Performance Excellence Plan is evaluated annually and includes satisfaction and performance measures for Enrollment, Instruction and Transition. This simplification has enabled our organization to focus on our students and clients success, and provides clear structure for our instructional and support staff to work together to build Centers of Excellence.

A visitor to any of our four campuses will find caring and engaged staff; clients and students learning in modern, professional environments -- experiencing high quality instruction.

We define our Centers of Excellence by the following attributes:

  1. The belief that our student is at the center of everything we do.
  2. Our programs are based on local and national industry expertise.
  3. We maintain cleanliness and order in our classrooms and facilities.
  4. We provide outstanding instruction, technology and curriculum.
  5. We have consistent standards in our communication, our signage, our buildings and environments across all campuses.

THE WORK OF OUR PEOPLE

A hallmark characteristic of the staff and faculty of Metro Technology Centers is the sincere devotion to our student’s success; whether by helping a high schooler master complex information in their STEM coursework, by helping a business leader improve employee productivity, or encouraging a community member to improve their health through regular and affordable wellness programs.

In a recently completed brand evaluation, our research included focus groups with customers and faculty. In those confidential research groups we heard from our customers:

“Metro Tech will help you in any way possible. Financially, academically, emotionally.”
“I came out of my comfort zone at Metro Tech. I felt different when I first started, but I immediately felt accepted.”

This culture of caring is mirrored by our faculty comments in separate anonymous focus groups:

“The best days are when I can give kids experiences they never thought they’d have, and may never be able to experience again.”

Our employees were also asked why they work at Metro Tech. Our mission is validated by these comments:

From every area of our organization – whether behind the scenes in our warehouse or on the front lines in our training programs -- our employees proudly support and deliver programs that annually develop nearly 100,000 members of the Oklahoma City workforce.

MAJOR PROGRAM AREAS

In partnership with business and industry, training is provided to students of all ages and career stages. Our students range from working professionals acquiring new cutting edge skills to young adults preparing for their first job. Each individual served requires unique curriculum and instructional delivery based on their career and field of work. We encourage lifelong learning and focus in four main delivery areas:

Economic and Workforce Development: With industry clients based in the most affluent and successful business district in Oklahoma, Metro Tech serves municipal leaders, business experts and aspiring professionals. Leaders seek our expertise to create customized workforce training and professional development in order to improve their profitability, lead with compassion, create leaner processes, deploy innovative growth, and engage teams with essential technical and professional skills. This team helps clients succeed in the modern economy.

Adult and Career Development: In the area of lifelong learning, working adults enroll in a wide array of flexible and cutting edge programs. These shorter term courses allow students to continue their growth; gain or retain their professional licenses; upgrade their careers; attain additional industry certifications and improve their lives. The successful team that leads this area is renowned statewide for its success, achieving the Journal Record ranking of 2nd highest in the state.

Wellness and Special Interest Classes: Expanding lifelong learning opportunities to our communities, Metro Tech offers a wide variety of special interest courses that are very popular with the employees and residents in our district. In addition to taking courses such as upholstery, golf, and senior-citizen updates, over 400 members of the community join our employees for wellness classes each semester. The teams that design and lead this programming are focused on individual personal growth, health, happiness and success.

High School & Adult Career Training Programs: Full time programs are available for high-school students and young adults. Metro Tech provides industry-guided career training and transition services. Bringing to the classroom an array of vibrant and diverse life experiences, our students pursue their dreams, participate in half and full-day sessions during morning, afternoon and evening programs. Students are eligible to participate in work-based learning via Registered Apprenticeships, Internships and Externships managed by our office of Apprenticeships and Work Based Learning. The teams that lead these programs include National Board Certified Instructors, industry professionals and instructional experts.
