The Skinner Scroll Week of April 24th

Meet the true ROCK STARS of Room 9! Our Sound Celebration with all second grade classes was a huge success as we played our instruments to some of our favorite songs. Check out the instruments that the musicians created below! It was neat to see recycled items turned into wonderful creations. I appreciate your support on this project!

We are the Second Grade Rock Stars! Room 9 Shines!
"I love Rock 'n' Roll!"

“Three times the fun!” In math we are practicing how to add three digit numbers. This can be tricky but we are working hard! We can see how important it is to know place value for this type of math!

Second grade poets continue to blow me away with their enthusiasm and creativity in poetry. We used our five senses to interpret the poems we have been reading in Reader’s Workshop. We began by closing our eyes and visualizing what we read and then decided how our poems may smell, feel, taste and sound. It is amazing how we can use our senses to comprehend the emotions or feelings in reading poems. We took things even further and decided to use our senses while writing our own poems. This really brought out some creativity in many students. It turned some poems into songs or chants as well as encouraged students to add detail to simple ideas to make them come alive.

No job too big, no job too small...Second Graders can do it all! We are learning about Service Jobs in Social Studies. We learned the many different ways that service jobs can help members of the community. Second Graders even graphed their favorite jobs and what type of service they provide! Ask your second grader what they want to be when they grow up!

Monthly Newscasters for next week are Erica, Ethan, Alijah, Chloe and Avneet! It's hard to believe it is April! Your child should be writing their 8th newscaster story! Wow! Time flies when you are having fun!

Friday, May 5th- Running with the Wolves School Fundraiser. Second Graders should wear their running gear to school and be ready to race to the finish line!

Wass Blood Drive on Tuesday, May 9th from 2:00pm to 7:45 pm in the LGI. #Bewasskind. For more information, please check out Mr. Jansen's Wass Howl!
