Dayton Flyers 2016 Fall Season In Review

As the year comes to a close, we'd like to recognize the spectacular successes that the University of Dayton achieved during Fall 2016. The Flyers really soared, earning four conference championships—just one of three schools across the country to attain this incredible accomplishment, including Stanford!

Men's Cross Country--2016 Atlantic 10 Champions and Jason Ordway named A-10 Coach of the Year!
Hunter Johnston and Chris Negri named to the 2016 Atlantic 10 All-Academic and All-Conference Teams
Women's Cross Country--finished as runners-up in the Atlantic 10 Championship race
Dayton's Chloe Flora named A-10 Rookie of the Year
Football--Second place in the Pioneer Football League
Senior linebacker Christopher Beaschler was named a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American for the second consecutive year, and teammates David Leisring and Tucker Yinger were named to the second team. Dayton and Boise State are the only two Division I institutions with three Academic All-Americans this year. Beaschler was one of 16 finalists for the 2016 National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy. The trophy, sometimes referred to as "the Academic Heisman," recognizes an individual as the top football scholar-athlete in the nation.
Men's Soccer--advanced to the second round of the Atlantic 10 tournament
Lalas Abubakar--named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and named Second Team Scholar All-America and First Team Scholar All-East Region
Women's Soccer--2016 Atlantic 10 Tournament Champions!
Alexis Kiehl - led the NCAA in goals scored with 21 and was named an NSCAA Division I Women’s Scholar All-American
Volleyball--2016 Atlantic 10 Regular Season and Tournament Champions!
Coach Tim Horsmon named A-10 Coach of the Year, Jane Emmenecker, named A-10 Setter of the Year, and Margo Wolf named A-10 Libero of the Year
The 2016 NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) report on Division I student-athletes placed the University of Dayton among the top schools in graduating its student-athletes.
