PRAYERNEWS October 2017

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13 ESV.

1st October – Inverness Kinmylies (Minister - Rev Andrew Barrie)

Pray for the congregation as their minister will be leaving and moving on to a new charge in Wick, in the coming months. Remember the congregation at this time of change and vacancy. Pray that the Lord will guide, lead, and uphold them as they continue to maintain services each week and the work and witness of the church in Kinmylies. Pray for the minister as he moves to a new charge, and a new part of the country. Pray that Andrew and Susan will be blessed in their new situation, and will settle down quickly amongst the people, bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to them, and those in the community.

Give thanks for Kinmylies Monday Club event for primary school children. So many children have been coming that we have had to cap the numbers! However, there is a desperate need for leaders, so please pray for more leaders, and please consider if you could come and help Kinmylies with the Monday Club.

Also, please pray for our new initiative for families called “Our Space”. It is to be a new monthly event, held on a Sunday afternoon, where we would welcome families from the community to come together. There will be crafts, activities. a short time to explore a bible story, and a meal provided. Please pray for Anne Gunn and the whole team involved with this.

8th October – National initiative YEAR OF YOUNG PEOPLE – 2018

The Mission and Discipleship Council in collaboration with other councils are seeking to enable Congregations and Presbyteries to participate in this national initiative. A Toolkit will be available in November if you send your pledge form to Mission and Discipleship council – see blue images below. Please pray for this National initiative – So many of our churches do not have children or young people, or may be just a few. Some do not have the people who could run a youth group, others do not a have people who would take on a Sunday School. But there are other congregations who do have people who can take on these responsibilities – perhaps some could even help other churches.

Pray for those under 25 years old, pray for those who are teenagers, pray for those who are of Sunday School age, and the preschoolers. All need to be reached with the Gospel. Maybe we can arrange an event in 2018 – Presbytery- wide for all young people. Maybe a training day for all leaders/prospective leaders (see the letter to the Presbytery Clerk above for more information)

15th October – Inverness East (Minister: Rev Prof Andrew TB McGowan)

Give thanks for a successful city centre outreach day at the end of September.

Give thanks for the continuing services in Raigmore Community Centre and for the six elders who regularly, along with the minister, take that service.

Pray for the work of ‘The Shack’ as a base for outreach in Raigmore

Pray for the ministry to young people in the East Church, including the Sunday School, the Ark, and the Girls Brigade. Pray for a new youth leader to work with teenagers.

Pray for the elders and newly-established Pastoral Care Team, in the work of caring for the many people who are in need.

Pray for the Minister as he goes on six weeks’ study leave at the end of October, that the time will be productive. Pray for Rev Fraser Turner as he provides pastoral care during that time and for the various ministers who will preach.

22nd October – Inverness Ness Bank (Minister – Rev Fiona Smith)

As we have celebrated the season of harvest, we remember those in our city who come along to ‘Inverness Foodstuff’ drop in centre at Ness Bank Church for food and company. Lord, we cannot imagine what it is like to be homeless and to wonder where the next meal is coming from. We pray for your blessing on the participants and on the volunteers who shop for the food, and then cook nutritious meals.

We pray for the Guild meetings, and give thanks for the commitment and dedication of those who support the Guild projects. We pray for your blessing on those who organise the meetings and speakers, and pray that all members enjoy their time of fellowship together.

Give thanks for the Kirk Session and their dedication and commitment, and all the members of the teams. We pray that the Lord will bless their work as they agree their final plans and budgets for submission to the November Kirk Session meeting.

Lunch Club ...

We pray for members of the Lunch Club who meet each week for food and fellowship. We ask your blessing on the many volunteers who willingly give their time to help, whether it be serving food, driving the minibus, being a ‘buddie’, or providing entertainment. Lord, we also give thanks for the staff of the Calman Trust who cook the food.

We pray for the minister as she will be telling members and volunteers about her trip to Canada, and we pray it will be an enjoyable time for all concerned

29th October – Students at University and Colleges–Christian Union groups, S.U.groups in school, and Youth Work generally.

Lord we do pray for all these young people. We long to see them following you, and coming to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus.

We pray for the University and college students starting out on a new journey, learning new things, meeting new people, perhaps being away from home for the first time. We give thanks that the C.U. are in most of the universities and colleges and can seek out where possible, those who are looking for a church to go to, or meet up with families who can show them hospitality during their time at university/college. Pray that they will make good friends. Everything is exciting and new, but there are always those who are shy, and find it difficult to make friends. Lord we pray that for those who do not know you, May university/college be the time, and maybe the place when they come to know you in a saving way. We give thanks for Scripture Union groups in schools, and for all the work that congregations do in providing Youth groups, Sunday Schools/Clubs, After School groups and so on, not to mention even younger young ones! Mother and Toddlers, Pre-School children. Many can testify that they came to know the Lord at groups like these many years ago! We are told in Proverbs 22.6. “Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it”.

Pray for all those who lead these organisations, and are leaders in groups, those who plan programmes, run Holiday Clubs, arrange outings, camps and meetings, invite speakers etc., and so it goes on. Sometimes we forget just how much work is involved, so please pray for all the people you know in your church who are involved in the various groups mentioned above.
