Monkton Park Newsletter Friday 17th September 2021

We've had an exciting week this week with the introduction of our boat and tyres to the field! This is all part of our OPAL project (outdoor play and learning) where we hope to bring lots of different opportunities for play into our playtimes and lunchtimes. We'll be adding various resources over the next few weeks. Click here to see more about OPAL.

Next week we have an artist coming into school to work with all children in school. The aim is to make new house point charts. Click here to see some of the pieces the artist has done in other schools.

Fidget Toys

Please can we request that fidget toys are not brought into school unless otherwise agreed. They are easily lost and can sometimes be more of a distraction than help!

Congratulation in week 2 to: Phoebe & Rosie, Penny, Brody, Bea, Jack, Zak, Reuben, Alvina and Jasmine

Non uniform day

All primary schools in Chippenham will be having a non-uniform day on Friday 1st October to help raise money for Springboard Charity in Chippenham. Springboard is a charity that supports pre-school children (aged 0-5) with special needs and their families in North Wiltshire. They are based in Chippenham but their catchment area covers the whole of North Wiltshire. They have been helping children and their families since 1976 and are the only specialist service of their kind in the north of the county. They cover a whole range of disability and learning difficulties. Younger children and their families attend their stay and play groups and children aged 2 and above can access their specialist preschool. They provide information, support and training to families and other pre-school settings as part of their outreach programme.

Springboard are facing huge financial difficulties this year especially following Covid and we hope that the town non uniform day will help provide some important funds for the charity. We will be asking for a donation of £1 per child which can be paid through ParentPay.

After School Clubs

Thank you everyone who booked places for our afterschool clubs. Thank you to the teachers for allowing us to increase some of club sizes, We are pleased to confirm that everyone who applied for space will be able to start their clubs next week. Unfortunately Art Club was completely oversubscribed and therefore we have sent out separate letters to let you know whether your child has a place at the club.

Sports Clubs and Chippenham Sports Partnership

There are still a few spaces available in the Up and Under Clubs on Mon and Weds for Y3/4/5 and KS1.

KS1 children will have the chance to develop their physical skills through different games and activities. In the Y3/4/5 club with Mr Kingwell, the children will have the opportunity to play a wide range of sports such as dodgeball and handball.

We also have some spaces in Y5/6 Netball where Mrs Porter has also kindly offered to help, Thursday’s Football club with Mr Slee and Running Club with Mr Rafferty.

After a very quiet 18 months, we are hoping to take part in a number of School Games competitions and festivals this year.

Our first one, a mixed and girls only football festival is at Stanley Park in October, followed by netball, tag rugby, athletics, cricket, dance and many others during the year. We will keep you informed about these and many other sporting opportunities for all year groups in the coming months. We look forward to and active and successful year.

Braeside

Thank you to all of the parents who have paid for the Year 5 Braeside Residential Trip taking place in November. Payments can be made in installments on Parent Pay.

Regular payments can also be made for the Year 4 residential taking place in February.
