Sophie Photovoice Portfolio

Week one

In week one we had to take two selfies, two pictures of family members, and two pictures of objects. We had to take vertical and horizontal photos.

All Photos
These are all six of my photos.
Favorite Photos
This is my family photo of my sister. I took this picture during golden hour, the hour when the sun begins to set. I took this photo in golden hour because I thought that the lighting looked good. I tried to find a simple background so that the focus was mostly on my sister.
This is my favorite picture of a familiar object. I picked the marble background from my kitchen counter. I thought it was a nice touch to have a marble background to add to the photo of the pencil. I made sure to have the camera only focus on the pencil which made the photo more interesting in my opinion.
This is my favorite selfie photo. I didn't want to show my face so i decided to cover half my face. I wanted it to be focused on my eyes so eliminated any other distracting background including my face. This improved by only focusing on one subject in the picture.
Least Favorite Photos
These are my least favorite photos that I took for this project. I have one selfie, one photo of an object, and one picture of my cat. I didn't like these as much because I thought that the lighting was weird, quality was a little off, and that the angels weren't very good. The one in the middle is a familiar object the one on the left is a selfie and the one on the right is a family photo.

Week Two

In week two we had to take a horizontal and vertical snapshot, and a horizontal and vertical portrait.

All Photos
These are all of my photos.
Favorite Photos
This is my favorite portrait photo. I like this photo because the background is simple. I also like the darker lighting in this case because it adds to the effect I was going for.
This was my favorite snapshot photo. We took this photo at halloween. I like this photo because the background isn't distracting and everyone is looking at the camera. I also like the fact that everyone is dressed up as someone else.
Least Favorites
These were my least favorite photos because I didn't like the lighting as much. I do like the backgrounds in these photos because they are simple. I just didn't like them as much as the others. The one on the left is a snapshot and the one on the right is a portrait.

Week Three

In week three we had to pick and choose two photos that told a story about something you believe in.

All Photos
I didn't take these photos this week, but I took them at the women's march when I went. I liked the first photo because I like how the photo is from behind and both of the people in the photo are wearing their pink hats to show respect for women. In the second photo is also a photo from behind but the focus is the sign. The sign was very powerful for me.

Week Four

My Artist Statement

My message for my final photo is women's rights, and diversity through race, religion, gender and all of our differences.

This message is important to me because I am a young women and I see so many women struggling and being abused but still standing up and I want to fight for our rights. I also want to show feminism and how anyone can be a feminist. I want to show how women are equal and I want other women especially teenage girls like me to feel better about themselves. I feel like people my age are insecure including me and I want to show power through my photo.

When people see my photo I want them to feel like they are powerful and can cause change. I want them to see the hats and see power and their ability to cause change and to teach others. Most importantly want them to fight I want them to see the photo and then fight for what they believe in.

Week Five

Final Photo
This is my final photo I like it because it makes the pink hats pop out to see the message. In order to have this picture I had to take it at the womens march and then I had to import it into photoshop and add the color to just the hats. I thought that the hat shows the power of women because this specific hat is used to show womens power. When there is no color on the rest of the photo you realize that the hat is the focus of the picture, and I like that part of the photo. The meaning of my photo is womens rights and that women are equal and powerful and have a voice. This message is very important to me because one I am a young women and my whole family going all the way to my great grandma are activists. As long as I can remember my parents have told me that I am equal and to always fight for my rights.
