If Willy Wonka had been invited to this Scarsdale party, he would have been jealous! Greenacres first-graders and their parents got an early start to celebrating the holidays on Tuesday, Dec. 20, when they gathered in the lunchroom to create colorful candy houses. The house-building party was a frenzy of fun activity. Students had already framed out their candy homes using cardboard and other materials, and the house-building party gave them a chance to decorate their creations with an assortment of candies and other treats.
Parents contributed the long table of decorating materials, which included Twizzlers, gumdrops, peppermint candies, graham crackers, and other sweet items. Using cake frosting to hold things together, the family teams decorated in a buzz of activity. The bonus? All the houses were transported home by parents. Visions of sugarplums!
