Mid-ocean ridge- An underwater landscape full of mountains that runs along a tectonic plate.
The Mid Atlantic ridge is the longest mountain range on the surface of the Earth.
This is created from magma rising in between the gaps of two tectonic plates which hardens and is pushed farther away from the center of the plates
The tectonic plates the Mid-ocean ridges are next to can move between 1 and 20 cm a year, and most of the mid-ocean ridges are still unmapped. ( Even submersibles have explored less than .1% of the mid-ocean ridge.)
The heat from the hydrothermal vents in the ridges attract sea creatures that live without needing sunlight and instead revolve around the chemicals released from the vents to survive.
