The Lady Vikings hosted the Ridge View Lady Blazers at Woodlands Country Club yesterday. This was a makeup match from the rain out on Tuesday. The Lady Vikings had their best outing this season, with some firsts for the year. Four Lady Vikings scored in the 40's for a team score of 190, which was the low for the season, defeating the Lady Blazers by 44 strokes.

Low medalist honors went to Millie Spivey shooting a 45 and Ridge View's Emma Ishakov with a 49. Spring Valley senior Tayelor Morgan broke 50 for the first time in her high school career shooting a 49. Also contributing to the overall team score was Maddie Webster (48) and Elaine Craig (48).

The Lady Vikings travelled to Indian River Golf Club to take on the Lady Timberwolves of White Knoll. It was a tight, hard fought match, but the Lady Vikings came out on top, defeating the Lady Timberwolves by a new season low team score of 180 to White Knoll's team score of 182.

Overall low medalist honors for the match went to Spring Valley Junior Maddie Webster shooting a 41. White Knoll's low round went to Anna Smith shooting a 42. Other Lady Vikings contributing to overall team score were: Senior Millie Spivey, Junior Lauren Williams and Freshman Elaine Craig.

The Lady Vikings will be honoring our seniors at our last home match at the Woodlands country club against the Lugoff Elgin lady Blue Devils on Monday Oct 5th. Then we will begin preparing for our region playoffs by playing in the Smith Memorial Pink Out tournament in Newberry on Tuesday October 6th.

The Girls Cross Country team is now 2-0 against region opponents, with a win over Ridgeview yesterday, and a final score of 15-50. The Lady Vikings finished in places 1-15 and 19-21. The top 7 finishers in the race were Caitlin Aycock, Brantley Aycock, Ava Phelps, Emily Smoak, Madison McEachern, Gabi Dissinger, and Molly Westfall respectively.

We have a weekend off to prepare for another region opponent as we travel to Northwestern HS on Wednesday October 7th. Please help me congratulate our team for another job well done.

Varsity

The SV Varsity football team lost a heartbreaking 1 point game to Ridge View Friday night. The Vikings fell behind 10 -0 in the first half and were able to take a lead 16-10 mid way through the 4th quarter but came up short losing by 1 point. The Vikings were led on defense by Hy-Kein Nhan who had 2 interceptions, one of which he returned 41 yards for a TD to tie the game up 10-10 late in the 3rd quarter. Blayton Miller had a huge interception in the game bringing it down inside the 20 yard line which set up a 7 yard TD run to put the Vikings up 16-10. PJ Ulenchong had a 26 yard field goal at the beginning of the 4th quarter. The Vikings were led on offense by DeQuandre Smith who had 21 rushes for 67 yards and 1 TD and also was 12-22 for 133 yards.

Also playing well for the Vikings were Josh Skelton, Coby Cornelius, John Javis and Ty'Shaun Glover.

The Vikings have a huge match up with undefeated Northwestern HS at Rock Hill Stadium 3 at 7:30 this Friday night.

On Wednesday the Vikings competed against Ridge View in a region match up. The Vikings won the meet by a score of 15-50. Individually Fernando Castro won the meet with a time of 17:24. Ethan Taylor was 2nd in 17:34, Joey Massaro was 3rd in 17:41, Jack Stacy was 4th in 17:57, and Tyler Shuler was 5th with a time of 18:15. Rounding out the varsity was Blake Wild in 6th (18:45) and Henry Pettis in 7th (18:48).
