In 2010 I created BE Woodcraft in partnership with my step-father. The journey led me to create small wood pendants; hearts made from exotic hard woods & wishbones whittled from found tree branches, and selling them at BHLDN and Anthropologie.
Many people reacted to the necklaces heartfelt with emotion and soon I was flooded with requests for very personal gifts. I soon I realized my motivation was not to make money, but rather to enjoy sharing and knowing that my small objects brought others happiness.
Since 2011, I've been "trading" rather than selling, offering to exchange hearts/wishbones for donations made to socially progressive causes and/or trading with other artists who paint, sew, craft, etc. I have found that this approach fulfills my intentions more than making money.
