No Place Like Home My Week in Sports - Week of October 23, 2017

With Allatoona Fast Pitch Softball playing in the GHSA State Championship in Columbus, GA, the only Allatoona sport on deck for me was Allatoona Football.

Friday, October 27th was the last regular season home game for the Allatoona Buccaneers and they were taking on River Ridge High School. Playoffs start November 10th and because seeding has yet to be determined, every game matters. There's no place like home and Allatoona would love to have home field advantage for the playoffs!

It's always a team effort but Allatoona's defense held River Ridge to only two yards of total offense!

Final Score:

River Ridge 7

Allatoona 23

For the last regular season game, Allatoona will travel 61 miles north to Dalton High School. This game will determine if Allatoona will start playoffs with a home field advantage.

On Saturday, October 28th, my lens was turned to sports but this time it wasn't on Allatoona. I shot the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) 1A, 2A and 3A Volleyball State Championships held at Holy Innocents Episcopal School. The match-ups were:

  • 1A - Calvary Day vs. Mt. Paran
  • 2A - Coosa vs. St. Vincents
  • 3A - Pace Academy vs. Westminster

All three matches were exciting but ultimately the 2017 State Champions are:

  • 1A - Calvary Day 3, Mt. Paran 0
  • 2A - Coosa 3, St. Vincent's 0
  • 3A - Pace Academy 3, Westminster 2

For the week of October 30th, I'll be back under the lights to capture Allatoona Football take on Dalton on Friday, November 3rd.

Saturday will start swimming action as Allatoona's Swim Team begins their swim season.

Until then...

Every game is everything.
