Columbia has successfully completed over 100 major projects for various federal & local government agencies and private companies, including projects requiring design/build services. Our work has included new construction, commercial interior office suite build-outs, retail, historical renovations, electrical and fire alarm system upgrades, sprinkler system modifications, window replacement, lead and asbestos abatement and structural repairs and modifications. Prime contract values for these projects have ranged from $50,000.00 to over $5,000,000.00 with many projects performed simultaneously.

Columbia’s Executive Management staff hold Architectural and Engineering degrees and have over 75 combined years of professional experience in the fields of architecture, engineering, and construction. Our staff includes ASHE certified Project Managers, USGBC certified LEED AP’s and field crews with over 30 years experience in Health Care, Federal and Commercial projects.

In addition, Columbia currently holds a federal “Secret” Level Facility Clearance and our Executive Management and field crews all hold access clearances through the U.S. State Department.

Adaptive Reuse

In the private sector, Columbia has recently been certified and approved by Kaiser Permanente as a Tier Level 1 Contractor – contracts valued up to 5 million dollars, which included a 5 year Term contract for construction services.

Our Healthcare Construction services for various Medical Centers and Healthcare providers has included major renovations and alterations to Urgent Care Laboratories, Waiting Areas, Exam Rooms, Patient Corridors, Nurses Stations and Clinical Training facilities. These projects have included major mechanical and electrical system upgrades and modifications, as well as new and expanded Fire Suppression and Alarm systems. In addition, we have completed cold-shell buildouts requiring all divisions of work, specialty equipment installations, high-end materials, and Level 4-5 finishes.

Each of these projects required various levels of state-of-the-art infection control measures prior to the start of work, and air-scrubbing equipment enabled through-out the construction phase.

Our Healthcare customers include Kaiser Permanente, MedStar Medical Group, University of Maryland Medical System, and soon, Johns Hopkins University Medical Facilities.

During the construction phase, we use state-of-the-art equipment and procedures and follow all American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) and OSHA guidelines to maintain and exercise best practices for improving and maintaining Infection Prevention, and Safety.

Containment During Construction

Also during the construction phase, our field staff perform spot checks for safety compliance and constructability at the end of each work day.

Interior Layout & Framing

During construction the project site is kept clean and organized throughout the work area. Our Quality Control personnel make regular unscheduled site visits and inspections to monitor the workmanship, and to insure the highest levels of quality is being delivered for all divisions of work.
