During the 1930s, the Great Plains suffered an environmental disaster.

Because of how the disaster left the region, the Great Plains because the Dust Bowl.

Because of the disaster that cause the Dust Bowl, there were many droughts and storms.

These storms continued for years and were called "black blizzards".

Each storm that ripped through the Dust Bowl, stripped away more and more precious soil.

Huge dust clouds blocked out the sun, and in some areas, dust piled in drifts as high as six feet. The dust even covered up roads and vehicles.
