$30-million award for L.A.'s Promise Neighborhood hailed YOUTH POLICY INSTITUTE

Supporting schools in high-poverty communities to become vibrant centers of opportunity and excellence

___

Los Angeles Promise Neighborhood is a cradle-to-college-and-career approach to closing the educational opportunity gap. The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $30 million five-year grant to Youth Policy Institute (YPI) starting January 2017, one of six in the nation. In collaboration with the City and County of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Unified School District, YPI and 63 partners will build a pipeline of much-needed wraparound services for students, including early childhood development, social-emotional support, academic support, and college and career coaching to ensure pathways out of poverty for youth and their families.

This is the second federal promise neighborhood awarded to YPI and is located in the Los Angeles Promise Zone. Based on lessons learned and successes from the original initiative, now in its fourth year, YPI will work closely with schools and partners to intentionally align services to address student, school, and family needs, all while transforming schools through a focus on capacity-building and professional development.
