McMahon trounces Staples by double digits BY Jack shapiro

Brien McMahon Boys basketball team recently dominated Staples Varsity 61-48. The Senators increased their record to 8-4 while the Wreckers drop to 5-8.

McMahon started off strong with 12 unanswered points early in the first. Staples attempted several comebacks yet they were unable to get by the Senator’s strong defense.

The Wrecker's made multiple key turnovers that went on to give McMahon a substantial lead.

“We weren’t ready to play; too many turnovers and a couple of defensive lapses early kind of set the tone for McMahon to build an early lead,” Staples head coach Colin Devine said.

On top of the Wreckers’ turnovers, Senators’ Eric Day ’17 lead McMahon with 24 points and helped his team out when they needed him the most.

“He’s a great player and lives for that. Anytime it comes down to the wire, I know he wants the ball,” McMahon coach Ken Dustin stated.

The Wreckers cut the lead down to five late in the game but were unable to stop Day and the sturdy Senators offense.

Staples captains brought in most of the team’s scoring with Justin Seidman’s ’17 21 points and Sean Pritchett’s ’17 17 points.

The Wreckers will play two games next week, home against Westhill (4-7) then away at Stamford (4-8). Both Westhill and Stamford are at the bottom of the West division and are fighting for a chance at the postseason.

The Senators will go on a home stretch against Trinity Catholic (8-3) and New Canaan (3-10).
