The Beauty of Purity A Bible Study

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. Psalm 29:2 KJV

When we think of purity, we often focus on what we are not. We think of how far we have to go to become pure... of how far from perfection we still are. We take centre stage in our quest to assess our own holiness. And, typically, we don't get that far. What are we missing?

God's purity is attractive.

It is beautiful.

It is compelling.

Read Isaiah 6:1-8

To Discuss

  • Describe the scene that Isaiah saw.
  • Describe God.
  • How did the angels react?
  • How did Isaiah react?

Important to note:

  • Who was on the stage / throne in this vision?

When we are overcome by the beauty of his purity, we just want to change to be close to him.

Conviction of sin comes (areas of unholiness revealed) as we gaze upon God, admiring his beauty in worship.

Our personal purity is directly related to our personal worship of God.

  • Who are you when you're not on the stage?
  • How do you see the LORD high and lifted up in your normal routine of life? Or does that only happen during corporate worship times?
Read Revelation 1:12-18

To Discuss:

  • Describe John's vision.
  • How does this make you feel about God?
  • How did this make John feel?

How did Jesus respond to John?

  • Seeing the beauty of God's purity brings a fear of the Lord upon us.
  • Jesus bridges the gap between his purity and our imperfection. The One who holds the seven stars touches us and says, "Do not be afraid. I am here. I have authority. I am alive. So you now have power to be pure too."

Do you recognise that a call to walk in purity is a call to walk in intimacy with God?

That is God's desire for you.

Gazing upon God's beautiful purity in worship brings a precious sense of the fear of the Lord, which leads us into deep intimacy with him.

A fresh vision of God leads to a fresh sense of the fear of the Lord, which then leads to a deep experience of his intimate presence. And we begin participating in his purity. Read 2 Peter 1:3-4.

Come down from the stage. Put God on centre stage. Admire his purity and perfection. You will experience his purity and be changed by him.
