What is School Counseling?

School counselors help support students in their academic, career, and social/emotional development so they achieve success in school and become productive members of society.

*Note: School counselors do not provide traditional “therapy” or mental health “counseling”. However, they can help refer you to professional counselors or resources in the community.

School Counseling Vision Statement

All students at R.E. Jewell Elementary School will learn skills to be successful in school by handling their feelings in a positive way while learning how to work with others safely, respectfully, and responsibly at school. Students will regularly reach their goals and become cooperative, future-ready, and world class citizens.

School Counseling Mission Statement

The mission of the R.E. Jewell Elementary School Counseling Program is to provide complete and age-appropriate activities focused on the areas of academic, social/emotional, and behavioral growth through individual, small group, and classroom guidance lessons and support. As a team, with teachers, administration, parents, and our community, the school counselor will work to support all students as they become successful and ready for the future.

  • When a student is at risk for harm to self or others.
  • When a student discloses they are being harmed or could be harmed by others.
  • When a court orders me to.
  • When a law has been broken.
  • When a student asks me to consult another adult for assistance.
