Montrose 4-H Council Report from January

At the Montrose 4-H Council Meeting on January 7, 2019 Gaby O’Donnell called the meeting to order at 7:01.

We have decided that 4-H Council Fun night will be in February but we have not decided on the date. (Later decided to be held on Feb 16th from 6-9pm at the Montrose Fairgrounds)

February 1 is returning 4-H member enrollment deadline, last day to pay without late fees.

February 2 is Beef weigh in from 10 to 11am.

February 8 to 10th is YouthFest in Colorado Springs, Colorado. February 21st is

Montrose/Ouray Record Book Training is on Feb 21st, 6pm, at Montrose County Fairgrounds.

The friend and leaders of the month are the Kimble family, 4-H Council members and 4-H council leaders that shopped for helping hands, the Scriffiny family, and West Slope Ag.

We adjourned the meeting at 7:32.

2019 Montrose 4-H & FFA Market Beef Weigh-In Info!

Montrose 4-H/FFA Members are going to need to have the following documents at the 2019 Beef Weigh-In on Feb 2nd (10-11am):

  • Original Brand Inspection/s on all animals
  • COPY/s of Original Brand Inspection/s on all animals
  • Bred & Fed/Homegrown Eligibility form for both purchased B&F and/or Home-Raised B&F animals (Printable forms can be found HERE!)
  • $2/Animal for your ear tag (Cash/Check only)
  • Halter Break your Animal

Additionally, MINI MARKET ANIMALS must be declared at the weigh-in. Animals declared MINI must meet the following requirements AT FAIR:

  • Hip Height At or Below 47 Inches (Market)
  • Weight Between 500lbs - 1,000lbs

MINI's must meet the above requirements at Fair. If they do not, MINI's will show in the Prospect Class and not be eligible for the Livestock Auction.

4-H Fun Night - Montrose & Ouray 4-H Members!

Montrose and Ouray 4-H Members are invited to join us in Montrose for the 3rd Annual, 4-H Clover Fun Night!

Event will be hosted at the Montrose County Fairgrounds on February 16th from 6-10pm. The Montrose 4-H Council will provide snacks and games!

4-H Record Book Training ~ February

Washington Focus ~ Summer 2019

Citizen Washington Focus takes senior aged (15-19) 4-H Members to our nation's capital - Washington D.C.!

Delegates will fly to D.C. in Summer of 2019. While there, they participate with the National 4-H officer team in leadership workshops, volunteer in a large group community service day-project, interact with some of our nations upper most political leaders at the capital, and tour the sights of the National Mall.

Delegates are chosen by their respective 4-H Councils every February. Montrose selects 2 delegates and Ouray selects 1 delegate. Flight and trip registrations are paid for by the 4-H Council.

Interested 4-H members must apply through 4honline.com under the event - Citizen Washington Focus. Applications will begin at the end of December with a deadline of FEBRUARY 4th, 2019 for completed applications to be turned in online. Delegates will be chosen at the February 4-H Council meetings.

2019 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Training Dates

Please see the dates below for the upcoming Colorado State 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Trainings. The disciplines offered at each training are also listed below. 4-H volunteers must be approved, enrolled and active in 4HOnline prior to registering for the trainings. NO LATE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED for any of the scheduled trainings.

  • Morgan County – March 8-10 (Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun & Archery) Registration Opens: 1/25/19 Closes: 2/22/19
  • Pueblo County – March 22-24 (Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, Archery, Muzzleloader, Western Heritage & Hunting/Outdoor Skills) Registration Opens: 2/8/19 Closes: 3/8/19
  • (CLOSEST) Garfield County – March 29-31 (Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, Archery, Muzzleloader, Western Heritage & Hunting/Outdoor Skills) Registration Opens: 2/15/19 Closes: 3/15/19
  • Boulder County – April 5-7 (Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun & Archery) Registration Opens: 2/22/19 Closes: 3/22/19

SHOOTING SPORTS LEADERS NEEDED!

Shooting Sports is in desperate need of leaders this year. If you can help, please call the Extension Office ASAP to find out how to get started on the background check immediately. Training is at the end of March. Funds are available to help offset travel costs. If you have any questions please contact Cody Myers at 970-209-3520.

Sewing Workshops 2019

4-H Clothing Construction Workshops return in 2019!

All workshops are on Saturdays from 9am-NOON at the Montrose County Fairgrounds. Workshops are open to 4-H Clothing Construction Members no matter age or experience. Please bring your own machines, sewing tools, materials, and patterns. The first few workshops will focus on fun community service projects! The dates are listed below:

  • February 9 ~ Next Workshop!
  • March 9
  • April 13
  • May 18
  • June 15

Please bring: Sewing Machine, Basic Sewing Tools (Threads, Pins, Thread Puller, Scissors, Etc...), Materials to Sew, Pattern/s, and an ADULT.

NEW this YEAR! Are you interested in Crocheting? We have the wonderful opportunity to have a Crotchet 4-H Leader who will be doing workshops (Same time as Sewing) with 4-H Members who want to learn or improve on their skills. Contact us for more info!!!!
