Thank You!

To Harris Families:

While this year did not end as we all envisioned, I would like to thank you for continuing to support Harris Elementary and your students. Many of us at Harris, myself included, are parents. We know the challenges you were faced with during this time. Thank you for all that you did to help support your student and teacher in their learning.

I am grateful to our teachers for connecting with our students in valuable virtual learning experiences that engaged and grew our students. I can assure you that in our teacher preparation courses there was not a course on how to teach through a pandemic. This was a learning and growing experience for all of us. Their efforts are nothing short of amazing, and I am incredibly proud of them.

As we close this year, I am sure you have many questions about next year. I will continue to use this email to provide you with future information as needed. Our school buildings and grounds are closed until June 30th. When we receive word that our buildings are able to be open, I will use email to explain the process of picking up items from school.

We wish you a safe and wonderful summer!

Gratefully yours,

Mrs. Greulich and the staff of Harris Elementary

Kindergarten Registration

Greenfield-Central is pleased to offer an online experience for Kindergarten Registration. Please click on the link below to register a kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year. Students who are age 5 by August 1, 2020 are eligible to register.

Device Return

As a district we continue to adhere to the guidance of the governor and the state department of education. Under their direction, buildings remain closed to non essential activity and staff through June 30th. Until further guidance is issued, devices will remain with students planning a return to GC in 2020-2021. If you do not plan to attend a GC school next year, you can arrange for device return by emailing support@gcsc.k12.in.us

Student Items

GC schools will continue to meet the requirement for buildings to remain closed. At this time, non essential items will remain secured in the building. When arrangements to pick up items (supplies, yearbooks, etc.) are made, our families will be notified.

School Counselor Connection

Message from Mrs. Hall- Harris School Counselor

What a first year it has been at Harris Elementary! Although this year did not look quite like we all expected, I am so proud to be part of a community that remained resilient and persevered through this challenging time! I have done a lot of reflecting toward the end of this school year, and here are a few things I thought would be fun to share...

Thanks to the cooperation of Harris staff, I was able to teach 201 classroom lessons to your kiddos on topics such as bullying, hygiene, kindness, self-control, right and wrong choices, brain science, worry, growth mindset and more. We even made this happen virtually for the first time ever! I was also able to lead 10 lunch bunch groups to target more specific topics for various students. Harris students and staff donated 1,269 pairs of shoes to Changing Footprints, which aided children all over the world. An outstanding group of 3rd grade students helped me present brain science to members of the school board, and they did a phenomenal job! Many 3rd graders also helped me stream the Monday morning news to all students each week we were in the building. Together, we survived our very first full 9 weeks of virtual learning. We cried a little and laughed a lot!

These are just a handful of things that happened this school year, but this is what makes me so proud to be part of Harris Elementary! I wish you all the best this summer. Stay safe and most importantly have fun together. I cannot wait to see your student’s smiling face next school year!

Camp Invention Connect

This summer we are once again looking forward to partnering with Camp Invention to bring a hands-on, STEM-based camp to our students. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, we will be transitioning a brand-new, at-home camp experience called Camp Invention Connect. Although we cannot fully recreate the experience of attending a camp in person, we are excited for our families to engage in learning together.

If you are interested in registering a child, we do have many $100 scholarships available to support our G-C families. This brings the cost of Camp Invention Connect to only $75 per child. Please complete the Camp Invention Scholarship Form if you would like to learn more about this scholarship opportunity. A huge thanks goes out to our community partners for providing scholarship support: Duke Energy, Hancock Health, G-C School Foundation and Vectren.

If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Leliaert at lleliaert@gcsc.k12.in.us or Krista Steeno at ksteeno@gcsc.k12.in.us
