A Message From Pastor Kris

It has been a blessing seeing our congregation in person again! While we continue to move toward fewer restrictions I want to thank you again for the love and grace you've shown our team as we've continued to minister in difficult times. Children's Ministry has been on my heart these past several months. I am eagerly anticipating a return to children's ministry in early July. Our leadership team is finalizing a few arrangements before we settle on a date. I want to remind our parents that while we will be taking precautions such as increased hand washing and cleaning that keeping a room full of children from being within six feet of each other is an impossible task. We will continue to share updates as we get closer to help families make the best possible decision about when to return.

One of the many losses we felt during the COVID-19 outbreak was the cancellation of Pastor Daniel's retirement reception. We have rescheduled the reception for August 16 in the early afternoon. We will be finalizing and communicating the exact time in the near future. We sincerely hope that by August we will all feel comfortable coming together to celebrate Daniel and Lois' 25 years of ministry at Shawnee Alliance Church! I look forward to celebrating alongside you!

A lot has changed in the past several months. While it can be tempting to grieve the loss of "what was" I look forward to seeing where God is leading his church at Shawnee Alliance. I look forward to journeying together!

In His service,

Pastor Kris

What Is Worship, and Why Do We Do It? - A Reflection By John Long

“Why do Christians sing songs during services?” This question has been asked of me before. If I were to ask many Christians, they might not know why, other than to say, “That's what we’ve done since I was a child, and that’s what my parents did growing up.” But what is the purpose of singing songs? What do we gain from it?

Music has been used for centuries to teach, invoke emotions/responses, encourage, draw people closer to God, spread the gospel, and of course, to give God praise (Colossians 3:16). Music has always had a vital role in ministry. For instance, there were families of Levites who were dedicated to playing musical instruments and singing before the Lord (I Chronicles 6). David, the writer of most of the Psalms, appointed these men to play and also commanded us to sing and make music for the Lord. We see an answer to this call to action in Mark 14:26 where Jesus and the disciples sang a hymn after the Last Supper. At this point, Jesus knew He was headed to the cross, yet He worshipped! As Christ followers we have always been taught to act like Christ and become more like Him, so it stands to reason that if Jesus Christ sang a worship song, then we ought to as well.

Worship is, and has always been, about God. However, God does not need our worship; we need it. When we worship God through music, we proclaim key ideas and doctrine about God that help us understand Him more. When we praise God during times of hurt, doubt, and fear, we submit to His authority in our lives (Acts 16:16-40). Worship is giving God glory and focusing on Him. Worship changes us, and becomes a vital part of Christianity. That is why every Sunday we gather in singing songs as a congregation, and why it is vital to do so.

Psalm 33:1-3

Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous;

it is fitting for the upright to praise him.

Praise the Lord with the harp;

make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.

Sing to him a new song;

play skillfully, and shout for joy.

2020 Graduate Generation

Many have recognized the misfortune that has fell on this year's graduates, but how are they dealing with these changes and losses of opportunities? Some seniors have cancelled gathering celebrations to ensure safety, and other seniors have found ways to still celebrate finishing high school. No matter which way each senior chose, we are proud to present our recent graduates below!

Tiffany Barrientos -- A recent graduate of Wapakoneta High School and Apollo, Tiffany had a celebration for her graduation with family and friends, and her next step is to attend the Project Search program at St. Rita's Hospital in the fall.

Greg Brogee -- Shawnee High School

Rece Diehl -- Shawnee High School

Kia Dobie -- Kia recently graduated from Apollo and Wapakoneta High School. She plans to attend the Project Search program held at St. Rita's and then find a job at the hospital.

Solomon Goodin -- From Shawnee, Solomon has just graduated and will be holding a graduation party later in the summer as well. Solomon will be attending OSU in Columbus for mechanical engineering to pursue a career in prosthetic design.

Graci Hicks -- As a proud alumni of Shawnee High School, Graci plans to still hold a celebration for her graduation - although pushed to be three weeks later than originally planned - and will also be utilizing social distancing methods with optional masks and food utensils only to be touched by a select few who will help serve the food. Graci will be pursuing a degree in journalism and professional writing starting in the fall at Miami University.

Peyton Johnson -- Elida High School

Jenessa Klingler -- Wapakoneta High School

Lexie Marshall -- Shawnee High School

Maddie Mason -- Shawnee High School

Kaylee McGue -- Kaylee graduated with the Shawnee High School class of 2020 and plans to still celebrate her achievement, but has pushed back her graduation party from its original date to later in the summer. In the fall, Kaylee plans to attend the University of Toledo for Special Education.

Emily Miller -- Emily graduated from Shawnee High School this year and plans to go to the University of Cincinnati, majoring in Nursing.

Breonna Myers -- Shawnee High School

Emma Rex -- Emma has recently graduated from Wapakoneta High School and plans to still have a normal graduation party, but in August. In the future, she plans to attend Xavier University and double major in Elementary Education and English.

Braydon Ruble -- Lima Central Catholic

Michaela Rutter -- Michaela graduated from Shawnee High School and plans to attend Tennessee State University as a Nursing major.

Hope Spitnale -- Hope graduated from Shawnee High School and plans to attend Rhodes State College to be an RN or a firefighter.

Morgan Taviano -- Morgan graduated from Shawnee High School and Apollo and plans to be a licensed cosmetologist in the future.

Brady Vondran -- Temple Christian School

Khris Washington -- Shawnee High School

Peyton Wilson -- Shawnee High School

Emily Wohlgamuth -- A recent graduate of Shawnee High School, Emily still plans to hold a graduation celebration. She had originally planned to have self-serve, buffet-style food options, but has adjusted to have individually packaged food items instead to create less shared contact between guests. Her and her family have planned for social distancing in this aspect and with seating, as tables and chairs will be more spread out. She will be commuting to OSU Lima in the fall, majoring in Early Childhood Education.

Wish all these seniors good luck on their future endeavors!

Prayer

Our Prayer Ministry aims to teach and lead the church in both individual and corporate prayer. We submit to Jesus Christ as the head of the church and will strive to obey his command that his church should be called a house of prayer. We do this through prayer and fasting as a congregation once a month, prayer chain emails, classes on prayer and intercessory prayer team members praying prior to and during the Sunday morning services.

If you want to be involved or get more information on our prayer ministry, please contact Denise at denisellen1@gmail.com.

Do you have a request that you want to share with the staff or placed on the prayer chain? Feel free to contact us with prayer concerns for staff only or to share with prayer warriors by emailing your request to: prayer@shawneealliance.com.

You can find a free Bible in the Lobby. Take one today or download the YouVersion app on your phone. Use this simple SOAP format to guide your interaction with God's Word.

  • Scripture. Take your time reading each chapter and allow God to speak to you.
