What will it cost to design my garden?

Each project is different, so it's impossible to give a figure until we've seen the garden and talked to you about what you want from it.

A full design package usually starts at around £1,200

We know that this is a lot of money, but there's a lot of work in designing a garden properly, so here's a breakdown of what you get for your money.

Stage 1 - Site Survey and Design Consultation.

  • A complete site survey and analysis will be undertaken. Measurements, levels, trees, building and features in the garden will be plotted and recorded. Soil texture and pH tests will be taken to produce full survey plans from which the design will be created.
  • Our designer, Paul, will meet with you for an in depth discussion about the specific requirements for your new garden.

We will produce:

  • a two dimensional survey of the site which will act as the basis of all future drawings.
  • a three dimensional model of the site.
  • a written design brief which will be sent to you for approval.

Stage 2 - Draft Design Proposal.

  • Paul will prepare and present his proposed design for your new garden. This will be accompanied by a mood board presentation and preliminary budget costs. Your feedback and comments will be taken and modifications made as appropriate, to ensure that the finished design fits your requirements and your budget, before we proceed to finalising the design and planting.

We will produce:

  • an outline concept for the garden including suggested layout along with a suggested plant palette. It will be illustrated with a plan view and selected 3D views.
  • an Initial Budget Estimate outlining expected costs as accurately as possible.
  • Paul will visit you to show you the designs so far, to give you a chance to approve, or request any changes before moving onto Stage 3.

Stage 3 - Masterplan.

  • The masterplan presents ideas in an attractive and easily understood format, showing the design of the space in plan form. Materials will be considered and specific heights will be noted where appropriate.

We will produce:

  • a fully detailed Masterplan of the new design for the garden. This will take into account any changes requested in Stage 2 and will form the basis for all other design details and planting plans.

Stage 4 - Design Detailing.

  • In order to turn the Masterplan into a real garden a number of plans and drawings are required by the landscaper.

We will produce:

  • a setting out plan showing all measurements, levels and dimensions for the garden’s construction.
  • a full planting plan identifying all existing and new plants used in the design, their size, quantity and exact location.
  • a lighting plan showing positions of all specified light fittings.
  • Fully detailed construction drawings for any hard landscaping features in the design .
  • a scope of works and specification to cover preliminaries and define construction details, quality of workmanship and materials.
  • Paul will visit you to hand over the designs and talk you through your new garden.

Then what?

This might be all you need from us if you want to build and plant the garden yourself.

Working with our tried and tested network of highly skilled professional experts we'll organise everything, right through to the planting of the final plant in your new garden. We will even source and arrange the supply of all the plants, furniture and any garden buildings.

How much does a garden cost?

This is a question we're asked on a regular basis and it's a really difficult question to answer.

The cost will depend on lots of different things, including the size of the garden, how complex the design is, the quantity and quality of the materials you use, whether the garden is flat or on a slope... the list goes on!

To give you an idea of some of the costs involved we thought we'd include a case study of a garden designed by us which has already been built.

This garden...

Became THIS garden.

This is what it cost.

When it was finished our clients said:

"We love our new garden. It's so much better than we ever thought it could be. It suits our family perfectly and it's even changed the way we use our whole home. We consider it to be brilliant value for money, and a great investment in our home. We could never have done this on our own."
