What lead to this event happening?

Even though there are laws preventing segregation, this even still happened because african americans didn’t feel that they were being treated like americans citizens and they weren't getting the jobs they wanted because of their race.

The Detroit Race Riot (1943) The Watts Riots (1965) Nationwide Rioting after Martin L. King, Jr.’s Death (1968)

What was the event trying to accomplish?

When they first created the Civil Rights Act of 1964 they intended it to ban segregation in public accommodations, gave government power to desegregate public schools, outlaw discrimination in employment, and establish the equal employment opportunity commission.

What important people were involved in your event and what obstacles did they have to overcome?

Martin Luther king Jr. is the most influential people that made the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The biggest obstacle he had to do was that he had to do all of this with none violence. He did this with having a lot of people agree with what he was saying and they fought the segregation

How did this event impact today?

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 made it so all discrimination for any reason on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin was illegal in the United States of America. It also it effects how immigrants get into the USA.

What modern day inequality or event can you connect your Civil Rights Event to?

Today it is related to police brutality because police officers are scared that we are going to be segregated today. Also there are a lot of marches today for big things happening in the community for a cop shooting someone that shouldn't.
