December 8th, 2016 A few days ago, me and my family have decided to go around the world stopping at different religious sites and architectures. So we thought, why not start with our own religion, Christianity. So now we are in the small town of Bethlehem, which is only located six miles south of Jerusalem. This is a sacred site to us people who follow the religion of Christianity because it is the location where Jesus of Nazareth was born. Jesus of Nazareth ids the founder of Christianity , so Bethlehem resembles invaluable significance to us. Bethlehem has many churches and religious architecture, it was so much fun to be there.
December 10th, 2016 Continuing our journey, we just now landed in Moscow, Russia. We have arrived at St. Basil's Cathedral. This is in my opinion one of the most beautiful places in the world. There are so many colors and wonderful designs. We took a tour around the Cathedral and during the tour our tour guid explained to us how the cathedral was built as an order from Czar Ivan the Terrible to commemorate his takeover of Russia. I also learned that it has 10 churches total and is perceived as the "heavenly city".
December 14th, 2016 We are now in India, the place of origin for the religion of Hinduism. Here in India, we have come to visit on of their most sacred sites... Varanasi!!! We walked along the river bank and saw many Hindu believers walking down to the river and getting blessed. One of the Hindu believers told us that they believe that death in this city will bring them salvation.
December 16th, 2016 While we were in India one of the Hindus told us about a temple complex in Cambodia, so we are here right now!! The temple complex is called Angkor Wat. The structures look so delicate and it is truly a breath-taking site. The Angkor Wat is know as the largest religious monument in the world and is a representation of Mt. Meru. Mt. Meru represents Hindu faith and the "home" of ancient gods.
December 17th, 2016 We decided to head to Java next. This is where a Buddhist temple is located. It is called the Borobudur and it consists of nine platforms and a central dome. It is surrounded by trees and nature, allowing us to see its true beauty. This buddhist architecture was built in the 9th century AD during the reign of the Syailendra Dynasty. It is one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world and I am so glad I got to see it here in Java.
December 19th, 2016 Now, we are in Lumbini, Nepal. This is where Queen Mayadevi gave birth to the Buddhism founder... Gautama Buddha. This is a very sacred place for Buddhists and many travel here all year round. This city is very religious and cultural, it was so much fun to visit today.
December 21st, 2016 Now we are back in the city of Jerusalem, we went to go see the Western Wall, otherwise known as the Wailing Wall". This is a very religious architecture to the Judaism religion because it was built by Herod the Great as a retaining wall of the Temple Mount complex. There were so many people there praying, which is what it was built for. Also here we learned that Jerusalem is a sacred site for Jews as well. Jerusalem is important because it is the ancient capital of Israel and the site of the original temple.
December 23rd, 2016 We traveled to Turkey yesterday and now we have just visited the Selimiye Mosque. This religious architecture was built between 1569 and 1575. It is important to Muslims because it includes their Islamic schools, library, and covered markets.
December 27th, 2016 Next we travelled to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the most sacred place in the Islam religion. It surrounds the Kaaba, the place where all muslims turn when they pray. It is considered by all Muslims that this is the holiest place on earth.
