Santorini, the youngest volcanic land in the Eastern Mediterranean, is actually a group of islands consisting of Thíra, Thirassiá, Asproníssi, Palea and Nea Kaméni in the southernmost part of Cyclades. Santorini islands is still an active volcano. The islands that form Santorini came into existence as a result of intensive volcanic activity; twelve huge eruptions occurred, one every 20,000 years approximately, there are not many places in the world where you can enjoy exquisitely clear waters while perched on the rim of a massive active volcano in the middle of the sea.

My visit to Santorini, Greece was exceptional to day the least, as I visited it during the winter of 2013 (December- January). In the colder months, less accommodation settlements remained open, as winter is considered an off season. However, in the past few years Santorini has organized to operate as a tourist destination throughout the year with more accommodations during winter. I would like to recommend Greece, specifically Santorini, for anyone who wants to get away from the world and explore something surreal. This trip was definitely my favorite as it was so different from anywhere i've ever been.
