Samuel de' Champlain the founder of Quebec By: Taylor and Angellie

I was determined to spread my beliefs of Christianity.πŸ˜‰

I was determined to get to the "New World" before everyone else so I could spread Christianity, and claim land before my enemy, the Spanish get there before me. When I arrived and went exploring I found these furs that cost a great amount. They motivated me even more to explore the new land.

The temperatures in the winter were very deadly.

OH MY GOSH! WE NEED A TON OF DOCTORS! Many of my men are very ill and a ton of them have already not made it. The war is causing more men to pass too. WE NEED HELP RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!πŸ€’πŸ˜₯😭😒

Limited supply of maps

We also had a limited supply of maps. It was hard for us to know where to go in the new world.

OH! Get this! I discovered the city of Quebec and started a colony of settlers.

Omg I can't believe I fought with the Iroquois, I went on a voyage with the Hurons and helped them attack the Iroquois but we lost the battle.

I became friends with the Mi'kmaq

Many people ask me how I feel about my journey, well here is my answer! Im very proud and honored that the king and queen are happy that I established Quebec. The city is very active now and I also conquered Southern Canada for the french!

This is King Henry IV (the fourth) that founded my expedition.
This is King Henry IV's wife

The king and queen were so happy with me that they appointed me to be the commander of new France. They also gave me 30% of the land in New France. I was so happy I was jumping for joy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! I advise all future explorers to ALWAYS take back up supplies!! Also, be careful to who you talk to because they may not always want to be your friend.

Fun Facts

#1 I was born in a family of Marines in Brouage, a small part in France. My father and uncle were navigators. At an early age I learned how to draw, navigate, make nautical charts, and write practical reports. I served the army if King Henry during french religious wars in Brittany. Then I began a caretaker of horses but was adept with firearms and took a part in combat.😱🐎🐴

#2 I was asked to be a cartographer on my trip around the St. Lawrence R from 1601 - 1603.πŸ“·Part of my duty was to travel to French ports. During my visits I learned a lot about North America from the fishermen.

#3 In 1596 my first big adventure was with his uncle. We traveled to Cadiz, to transport Spanish troops then went with a large Spanish flee to the west indies. After that I accompanied his uncle on the journey and had the opportunity to see and hear about the Spanish holdings from the Caribbean to Mexico City. I made and illustrated a report about what he saw and learned during the trip then presented it to King Henry. I was awarded a annual pension.

#4 I am now known as the father of new France. I made many trips to North America and even explored the Great Lakes. I was the first person to write about the Great Lakes. They are so beautiful. The Ottawa River is another important area in North America. After 1602 I got instructions from King Henry and needed to stop further exploration. I was really sad. πŸ˜₯ But I became the administrator of New France.πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ˜

#5 Since I had so great relationships with the native Indians who requested me to help them with war against the Iroquois, who lived farther south. While we were looking for the Iroquois I became the first European to map a large body of water in the region which was later named Lake Champlain after me.🀣

Useful furs

Samuel de Champlain, I give you a offer. How about we trade with each other. I have some valuable furs of animals we have hunted that will cost you a lot of money and will keep you warm. On your behalf then you will give pots, pans, guns or any of the sort. Is that an offer? - Chief of the Huron Tribe

Here is a pic of the pans I have

Hey! I accept the offer. Meet me near the St. Lawrence river on the northern eastern part? - Champlain
