@MonmouthMLAX 12, No. 16 Villanova 10 Hawks defeat first ranked opponent in program history

Monmouth fell into an early 3-0 hole before senior Tyler Keen put the Hawks on the board with his first of a career-high four goals.

Trailing 4-2 at the start of the second quarter, Monmouth successfully defended a 6-on-4 situation as senior Nick Hreshko made one of his career-high 15 saves.

Monmouth scored on its ensuing possession as Chris Daly's second-straight goal cut the Villanova lead to 4-3 and shifted the momentum in the Hawks' favor.

Jake Willson's first-career goal tied the game at 4-4 and capped a 3-0 Monmouth run.
The two sides alternated goals as Zach Schleicher, Keen and Griffin Figel each scored to make it 7-7 heading into the fourth quarter.

Keen completed his hat trick and put Monmouth ahead for good with 12:45 to play.

Hreshko made another stop on a Villanova man-up opportunity to keep the Hawks in front with 8:23 remaining.
Less than a minute later, Zach Schleicher found the back of the cage to make it 9-7 in favor of the Hawks.
Keen's fourth gave Monmouth a 10-7 lead with 6:20 remaining.

Two Villanova goals in the span of 90 seconds trimmed Monmouth's lead to 10-9, but Neil Ruppert forced a turnover and Hreshko added to his save total as Monmouth regained possession and called timeout with less than two minutes to go.

Schleicher (above) and Eric Berger added empty-net goals as Monmouth extended its road winning streak to seven games.
