Chessie Chessie Chesapeake junior civitan district newsletter - The 2020 Quarantine and end of school issue

May 2020

Hi Junior Civitans! Hope you all are staying safe.

This year with COVID-19 and schools closed we know that electing next years officers might be a challenge. We still urge you to come up with a creative way to elect your officers while social distancing before the end of the year so that you are able to get off the ground running at the beginning of next school year. Some suggestions on electing officers would be to hold a Zoom or Google Meet where speeches can be given and use a google form to conduct ballot voting. I personally was able to do this at my own club and it was very successful. Remember to let your Lt. Governor, District Chair Ms. Carmen, Junior Civitan International and me know who next years officers are. Good Luck.

I encourage you to work on service projects during Quarantine and over the summer. In this issue, District Secretary Alize and District Sergeant at Arms Oliva share some great project ideas to do independently or in small groups while social distancing.

It has been a pleasure to serve as your 2019-2020 Chesapeake District Governor. I wish all our graduating seniors best of luck in your next chapter and I look forward to seeing our Chesapeake Junior Civitans continue to "Make the World a Better Place!" - District Governor Deven Desai

Projects to do at home and over the summer

Hey everyone, Olivia and Mia here! We hope you all are doing well during these challenging and uncertain times. We came up with a list of service projects you all can engage in within the comfort of your own home! Stay safe and stay home!

You can write letters or cards for veterans and military personnel through organizations such as Operation Gratitude, https://www.operationgratitude.com/express-your-thanks-virtual/write-letters-virtual/, and the Red Cross, https://www.redcross.org/volunteer/volunteer-opportunities/holidays-for-heroes.html,

You can write letters and cards to your local doctors and hospital staff which can be delivered to hospitals later,

You can make paracord bracelets for our Troops and First Responders which can be used to save lives in certain situations. This can also be done through Operation Gratitude, https://www.operationgratitude.com/express-your-thanks-virtual/paracord-bracelets-virtual/,

You can make blankets for critically ill and traumatized children, these blankets can brighten up a child's day by providing warmth and color. These blankets can be made through Project Linus, https://www.projectlinus.org,

You all may also do online volunteering, https://www.operationwarm.org/blog/25-volunteer-jobs-to-do-from-home/.

To Do Before The End of School

We realize not meeting in person at school has been a challenge for everyone. However, there are still some things you can do to make sure your club ends the year successfully and is ready to start next year off strong.

Hold Elections for 2020-2021 Club Officers

As Governor Deven mentioned, your club can hold elections over Zoom or Google Meet. Electing Officers now will give your club an opportunity to organize over the Summer, and will help our District Board and Junior Civitan International share important information with you so you can start next year strong.

Once you hold your elections, fill out the Officer Report Form http://www.chesapeakejuniorcivitan.org/uploads/1/0/8/5/108575907/club-officer-report.pdf
